Legendary Arsenal goalkeeper David Seaman believes that Arsene Wenger would be a great fit for Chelsea.
Chelsea manager Maurizio Sarri is under increasing pressure at Stamford Bridge and Seaman has backed his former boss to succeed the Italian, in spite of Wenger insisting he wouldn’t manage in the Premier League again.

- Wenger was awarded the Laureus’ World Sports Award for Lifetime Achievement this week.
- He has managed since 1984 when he took over at Nancy, but remains out of managerial work since leaving Arsenal last summer.
- His record against Chelsea at Arsenal was 22 wins, 18 draws and 21 losses.
- At the Laureus’ World Sports Awards, Wenger said that his “future is unknown”.
- With Wenger already intimating he won’t rejoin the PL, the Chelsea job looks unlikely should Sarri face the axe.
Seaman, who played under the Frenchman for six years at Arsenal, feels that his time out of management may have allowed Wenger to reflect on his options.
Speaking to TalkSport, he said: “Arsene always said he wouldn’t come back to the Premier League because of his love for Arsenal, that he wouldn’t feel right competing against Arsenal.
“But obviously time’s a healer and he could think ‘I want to go back there and prove a few people wrong’.
“For me, Arsene got a lot of criticism that wasn’t deserved over his last few years at Arsenal.”
After an excellent start to life at Arsenal, trophies were hard to come by in the early years at the Emirates Stadium. With many believing he should have stepped down after the FA Cup triumphs of 2014, 2015 and 2017 – the treatment towards Wenger became more volatile as time went on.
Now, Arsenal find themselves with Unai Emery, who is currently fighting off Chelsea and Manchester United for a space in the top four.
However, the Wenger-Emery transition seems to be going down better than the Conte-Sarri transition at Chelsea.
“It looks like there could be a vacancy at Chelsea quite soon, depending on their next three games which are three big games for Chelsea,” Seaman added.
“He’d be great there, I think. He’d be great anywhere, he’s a fantastic manager.
“I would love to see him back, but I don’t think it would happen.”

Does Wenger need to jump straight back into management?
Since leaving Arsenal in May 2018, Wenger has had time on his hands for the first time in the better part of 35 years.
Wenger himself has admitted that he is “enjoying daily life”, suggesting that he doesn’t feel an obligation to jump straight back into management.
However, throughout this season, he has been linked to roles all over Europe. From being Slavisa Jokanovic’s replacement at Fulham to stepping in at AC Milan and even becoming Paris Saint-Germain’s Director of Football in the summer.
Amidst all this speculation, however, at the Laureus event, Wenger said: “My future is unknown, even to me.
“I’m quite open, I enjoy daily life now and I have travelled a lot recently.
“I believe as well that sport today has a huge responsibility. It’s not only about stars, but it’s also about values.”
And wherever those values take Arsene Wenger, we’ll have to wait and see.”
