The new Bundesliga season starts tomorrow.
Defending champions, Bayern Munich, kick off the new campaign with a home tie against Hoffenheim and will be aiming to seal an incredible seventh straight domestic crown.
As always, the likes of Borussia Dortmund, Schalke and Bayer Leverkusen will all be in hot pursuit, but how does Germany’s top flight stack up in terms of their home kits for the 2018/19 campaign?
Here are the five best and five worst home kits in the Bundesliga this season.
Best
5. Eintracht Frankfurt

All-black with shades of dark grey, Eintracht Frankfurt’s new kit for the 2018/19 Bundesliga season is a sleek, mysterious effort.
With Frankfurt’s kit usually being predominantly white, or with black and white stripes, Nike took a big gamble by deviating to an all-black strip. However, it is a gamble that has paid off as they have come up with a very stylish design.
4. Borussia Dortmund

With Borussia Dortmund’s kits proving to be so popular around the world, Puma are under pressure every year to deliver the goods.
And this year, they have come up with another strong effort. The design is heavily focused on the sleeves, with a yellow band complimenting the black. This will be another big seller for Dortmund this season.
3. Schalke 04

Creeping in just ahead of their Rhur rivals, Schalke have themselves a very easy-on-the-eye kit for this season.
A pleasant blend of royal blue and white, Umbro have put a strong emphasis on their sleeve design across all their kits this year – it really works on this Schalke strip.
2. Bayern Munich

A deep red design, featuring subtle geometric graphics and a stylish black sleeve-trim, Adidas have played a blinder with Bayern Munich’s home strip this year.
Along with Dortmund, Bayern’s kit is always strongly anticipated and this effort should be very popular as they look to extend their domestic domination.
1. Nuremberg

Umbro really have upped their game this season and, in Nuremberg’s new home strip, they have another beautiful effort.
A deep claret base colour is perfectly complemented by the subtle stripe pattern and black sleeve trim. It’s dark, sleek and elegant – Nuremberg will hope it can inspire them to Bundesliga survival after four years in the second-tier.
Worst
5. Augsburg

Although there isn’t anything particularly off-putting about Augsburg’s kit this season, there isn’t a great deal of inspiration in it either.
You have to get very close just to be able to pick out the subtle pattern on the shirt and, compared to the classic strip they are harking back to, the red-green stripe is very unremarkable.
4. Bayer Leverkusen

Jako’s attempt at Bayer Leverkusen’s 2018/19 home kit is a very clumsy one.
After trying to cram in so many different features onto one shirt, the German manufacturer has come up with something that looks more like a knock-off PSG kit than a Bayer Leverkusen kit.
3. Hertha Berlin

It is truly baffling how any kit designer can get blue and white stripes wrong but, in Hertha Berlin’s latest home strip, Nike have managed it.
The variation between solid blue and fading white stripes doesn’t quite work but this kit is ultimately ruined by the TEDi sponsorship logo in the middle, which looks totally out of place and imposing.
2. SC Freiburg

Another kit whose ugliness is totally compounded by an awful looking sponsorship logo, Freiburg’s 2018/19 strip is quite simply a fashion disaster.
The jacquard-printed striping on the front doesn’t sit well with the deep red base and, in trying to put in a subtle black collar, Hummel have only succeeded in adding an eye-sore to the top of the shirt.
And, as previously mentioned, the Schwarzwaldmilch sponsor in the middle is terrible – which bright spark thought they could fit such a big sponsor onto a football shirt?
1. Wolfsburg

With their traditional colour being a horrible shade of green that is reminiscent of something you would find in a flu-sufferer’s tissue, you can’t blame Wolfsburg or Nike for trying to change things up a little.
What you can blame them for, however, is what they have changed to.
They have cast aside one sickly shade of green for one that is altogether more gruesome.
The Nike swoosh appearing in the lighter shade of green, along with the X-shaped graphic across the front, makes for a nauseating effort in this year’s Wolfsburg strip – roll on 2019/20.
