Barcelona confirm Malcom signing a day after hijacking Roma bid

Barcelona have confirmed the signing of Bordeaux winger Malcom after hijacking deal from Serie A outfit Roma.

Malcom, 21, was set to leave Bordeaux for the Italian capital after the two clubs agreed terms, and The Girondins even confirmed Malcom’s sale to Roma, pending the signing of administrative documents and a medical on Monday.

However, the Catalan giants have now swooped in and signed the Brazilian starlet for a fee in the region on £40m. The 21-year-old will sign with Barca for the next five seasons until the end of the 2022/23 season.

Malcom will arrive in Barcelona on Tuesday and undergo his medical with the club on Wednesday ahead of his move, and he now becomes the club’s third signing of the transfer window.

The La Liga champions have already secured two major signings in Arthur from Gremio and Sevilla’s Clement Lenglet, and Malcom becomes the third as he will immediately fly out to the United States to link up with his new teammates for the International Champions Cup once his medical is complete.

Malcom featured 38 times last season across all competitions, scoring 12 goals and registering seven assists. He was tipped to join Premier League club Everton, before Roma swooped in and agreed a £32m fee for the Brazilian, but Barcelona have gazumped the Giallorossi’s offer and he will be heading for La Liga.
