Spurs 3-1 Chelsea: every player marked out of 10 as Spurs suffocate Sarriball at Wembley

Tottenham Hotspur return from the international break to dismantle Chelsea 3-1 at Wembley on Saturday.

Spurs suffocated Chelsea right from the start in this one and it paid off with two early goals from Dele Alli and Harry Kane. The north Londoners rattled a cagey Chelsea side throughout the game and while Spurs’ dynamic advances were a joy to behold at times, the Blues looked an absolute shambles at the back.

David Luiz should’ve stayed at home while Chelsea’s record breaking midfielder in chief Jorginho looked uncomfortable on the ball for the first time this season.

Spurs put the final nail in Chelsea’s coffin with a spectacular individual effort from Heung-min Son – which could be an early contender for goal of the season – to end their undefeated run in the Premier League

Here’s the ratings from Saturday’s London derby.

Tottenham Hotspur

Hugo Lloris – 7 –Made an excellent reaction save from Morata’s header in the first half, which he didn’t have to do as it was offside. Made good stop from Hazard late on in the first half.

Serge Aurier – 8 – Gave Marcos Alonso a nightmare on the right flank with suffocating pressure and defended excellently.

Juan Foyth – 7 – The Argentine was Solid and composed all afternoon. Defended consistently well in the air against Chelsea’s crosses. Except for the end of theme.

Toby Alderweireld – 7 – Solid all game and distributed the ball well, but lost his concentration late on, allowing Giroud to grab a conciliation.

Ben Davies – 7 – Worked the ball well down the left flank with Eriksen and defended well.

Eric Dier – 7 – Remained composed in midfield alongside Sissoko during long spells of Chelsea possession. Distributed the ball well and was effective at closing down players.

Moussa Sissoko – 8 – Spurs’ best player in the first half, he didn’t give Chelsea’s midfielders any time to breath and passed the ball well when he had it. Made some flawless challenges and excellent interceptions.

Christian Eriksen – 8 –  Created a plethora of chances. Wonderful cross to set up Spurs’ opener and was at the forefront of Spurs’ attacks.

Dele Alli –8 – What International break?! Alli was a live wire in the early stages of this game and contributed to inspiring panic in the Blues’ back line. Excellently taken header for the opener delivered superbly by Eriksen. Should’ve secured a brace in the second half when he was left unmarked in the penalty area but he couldn’t keep his shot down.

Heung-min Son – 9 – The South Korean was unlucky not to score a hat-trick in the first half, one miss was an absolute sitter, but he was a consistent threat all game. He finally got his reward after the break with a truly spectacular individual effort, which could be an early candidate for goal of the season. He left Jorginho for dust on the right wing before cutting inside the box, taking it skilfully past a hopeless David Luiz and finished with a neat left-footed shot past Kepa. Sensational!

Harry Kane – 7 – Was a nuisance in attack and battled well in defence against set pieces. Scored a superb goal from range. Missed a sitter from six yards out after a superbly engineered attack crafted by Son and Sissoko.

Substitutes: 

Son (for Erik lamela 77) – NA – Made no impact.

Alli (for Harry Winks 86) – NA –Late sub

Chelsea

Kepa Arizzabalaga – 5 – Not much he could’ve done about any of Spurs’ goals. Made a few good stops.

Cesar Azipilicueta – 6 – quiet at right-back and appeared ratted at times alongside his defensive colleagues in the opening stages. Assisted Giroud for Chelsea’s consolation goal.

Antonio Rudiger – 4 – Wilted under Spurs’ attacking pressure, didn’t get tight enough and made some silly passes throughout. Booked.

David Luiz – 3 – Truly terrible performance. He appeared to move out of the way of Kane’s goal and allowed Spurs’ attackers to frequently get the better of him. He was embarrassed again when Son eased past him for Spurs’ third.

Marcos Alonzo – 6 – Could not handle Aurier in the opening stages, but worked his way into the game. Delivered some decent crosses.

N’Golo Kante – 5 – Couldn’t get the ball in the beginning, but had more joy as the game rolled on. Produced nothing of note and often left too much space for Spurs’ midfielders to create.

Jorginho – 5 – He looked a diminished figure this evening as Spurs did not allow him to settle into the game. As the clash wore on he became increasingly frustrated in the middle of the park and even lost his usual steely composure at times. Jorginho.

Mateo Kovacic – 6 – Good in possession, but produced little of note.

Willian – 6 – A marginalised figure on the right flank. He produced a shot that went just wide in the first half. Couldn’t break down Spurs’ defence.

Alvaro Morata – 4 – Seemed incapable of timing his runs this evening. Caught in the trap over 18 times.

Eden Hazard – 7 – The Blues’ best player, he worked into the game after Chelsea finally managed to calm things down. However, he was unable to produce anything that really threatened Lloris between the sticks. Booked.

Substitues:

Ross Barkley (for Kovacic 58)  – 6 – Controlled the ball well and showed good judgement when he came on. He helped create some half-chances for his team mates but to no avail.

Pedro ( for Morata 58) – 5 – Couldn’t find a killer pass or create any meaningful threats on Spurs’ goal.

Olivier Giroud (for Willian 75) – 6 – Looked lively when he came on and Finished with a good header, but it wasn’t enough this evening.
