Arsenal could be without their top creator this season v Man Utd - Unai Emery

Mesut Ozil may be a doubt for Arsenal’s trip to Manchester United on Wednesday, Unai Emery has revealed.

Ozil sat out the Gunners’ 4-2 north London derby win over Tottenham on Sunday, with Emery saying the 30-year-old has had ‘backache since last Tuesday’.

Ozil a doubt for Man United v Arsenal: five key things to know…

  1. Mesut Ozil has scored or assisted 81 goals in the Premier League since joining Arsenal in 2013.
  2. The German hasn’t been in the squad for Arsenal’s last two games.
  3. Even without Ozil, the Gunners managed to beat Tottenham 4-2 on Sunday.
  4. Emery has revealed that Ozil trained alone on Monday in an attempt to recover from a back injury.
  5. The Spaniard is unsure whether Ozil will be ready in time for Man United v Arsenal on Wednesday.

That backache also kept the German out of Arsenal’s 3-0 Europa League win over Vorskla on Thursday and Emery told a press conference that he may well miss the clash with Man United at Old Trafford on Wednesday too.

“I said yesterday he’s had backache since last Tuesday,” he said. “He couldn’t play in Kiev or yesterday.

“At the moment, I don’t know if he can play in Manchester.

“Today he was working alone, I don’t know if he’s okay for Wednesday.”

Arsenal’s win over Spurs means they are now 19 games without defeat in all competitions, leapfrogging their rivals into fourth place in the Premier League, eight points behind leaders Manchester City.

Is Mesut Ozil proving his doubters wrong?

Mesut Ozil has often come in for criticism from fans and pundits alike during his five-year spell at the Emirates.

However, in the Premier League alone, Ozil has scored or assisted 81 goals since arriving at Arsenal and is the Gunners’ most creative player so far this season, providing 20 chances for his teammates up to now, although Ozil only has one assist to his name so far.

Arsenal’s next-closest creator is wantaway midfielder Aaron Ramsey with 16.
