‘False!’ - Man Utd’s chief creator denies bet on Mourinho sacking

Manchester United forward Alexis Sanchez has hit back at claims he bet money on Jose Mourinho getting sacked.

According to reports Sanchez had bet £20,000 with United team-mate Marcos Rojo on Mourinho’s departure and then messaged the Argentinian to claim.

What is Sanchez being accused of? Five key things to know…

  1. Jose Mourinho was sacked by Manchester United on Tuesday, after losing his fifth Premier League game of the season.
  2. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has since been named as caretaker manager until the end of the season.
  3. According to reports, Sanchez bet £20,000 with Marcos Rojo on Mourinho’s eventual sacking.
  4. But the forward has called this claims ‘false’, going on to thank Mourinho for bringing him to United.
  5. Alexis Sanchez has created 41 chances in the Premier League since his Man Utd debut, at least 12 more than any other teammate.

Mourinho was sacked by United on Tuesday morning following their 3-1 defeat to Liverpool, further adding to their season so far.

The Red Devils are currently sixth in the Premier League but 19 points behind leaders Liverpool, while only 17 points off Fulham at the bottom.

Ole Gunnar Solksjaer was announced on Wednesday morning as Mourinho’s replacement until the end of the season, while the club start their search for a permanent manager.

But Sanchez has disputed claims he bet with Rojo about Mourinho getting relieved of his duties at United.

Posting a picture of the report on his Twitter account, Sanchez wrote: “This is FALSE!!!.

“José gave me the chance to play for the best team in the world and I only have gratitude for him. We are a truly United team. We are MANCHESTER UNITED.

“Respect. I can’t wait to help the team!. Good luck tomorrow family!”

Sanchez has not enjoyed the best life since moving to Old Trafford last January, failing to find the form he had previously with Arsenal.

This season Sanchez has started just seven games across all competitions, struggling to impress Mourinho – though the Chilean is currently out with an injury.

Alexis’ poor start at United

When he signed for Manchester United in January, in a swap for Henrikh Mkhitaryan, many had believed Sanchez would be one of the best deals of the year.

But the Chilean is yet to set Old Trafford alight, instead struggling to find a way into this United team – despite Mourinho trying his best to shoe-horn him in.

Sanchez has already been linked with a move away from United, with Paris Saint-Germain among those reportedly interested.

However, some do not believe the Chilean is to blame, with former United midfielder pointing the finger at the now-departed Mourinho.

Speaking after United’s 0-0 draw with Crystal Palace in November, Ince told Match of the Day 2: “When United can’t score, bring Fellaini on, go long, Palace are set up for that. They are relying on luck, knockdowns.

“Paying Sanchez half a million pounds, and not to be a quarterback. Playing long ball.

“We don’t want him like that, we want him in the 18-yard area. Fans have been patient but I don’t see cohesion or how we are trying to play.”
