Ian Wright picks out Arsenal's best finisher

Former Arsenal top scorer Ian Wright has picked out his choice for the club’s current best finisher.

The Gunners delighted their home crowd yesterday as they ran out 4-2 winners over north London rivals Tottenham Hotspur at the Emirates Stadium.

Arsenal’s goalscoring this season: what you need to know

  1. Arsenal are the second highest goalscorers in the Premier League (32) behind only Manchester City (43).
  2. Alexandre Lacazette has scored six goals in 13 matches while Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is currently on 10 in 14.
  3. The striking duo have scored exactly half of Arsenal’s Premier League goals this campaign.
  4. The club have scored 18 Premier League goals in the last seven fixtures

With Arsenal’s striking duo on red-hot form at present, club boss Unai Emery will be pleased with the efforts of both Lacazette and Aubameyang, with their emphatic victory over Spurs lifting them above their rivals and into the top four.

However, former club striker Wright believes Lacazette is the better finisher out of the two, despite both netting – Aubameyang twice – against Spurs yesterday afternoon.

“[Arsenal’s best finisher] Has to be Lacca,” said Wright. “He’s got goals in him and his movement is brilliant.”

“I wish I had played for AC Milan”

In a revealing interview, Wright discussed his career, similarities in today’s players to his game and how new Arsenal boss Emery has adapted to life at the club.

Wright suggested that the one club he wished he had played for was “AC Milan”.

The former Crystal Palace striker also likened current AFC Bournemouth striker and former England international Jermaine Defoe as the most similar striker to his game currently playing in the Premier League.

Wright said: “Jermaine. He’s obviously not playing as much as he’d like and his role is very different now but he was a goal scorer and scored all sorts.”

With Arsenal fans notoriously hard to please sometimes, Emery’s start couldn’t have gone any better, at least in Wright’s eyes.

“Love the ruthlessness. I love that the team comes first over every player. He makes subs when we need it and we’ve seen he is willing to sub someone at halftime. Everyone around the club only has positive things to say and that’s not easy when all they know for such a long time is one manager.

“18 [unbeaten] on the spin. How do you find cons? The players he’s added to the squad have been a success and his plan for integrating them was perfect.”
