Klopp can bring free-scoring No.7 back to Liverpool next month

Derby County manager Frank Lampard has admitted Liverpool have a recall clause in Harry Wilson’s loan contract.

After impressing on loan at Hull City in the second half of last season, scoring seven goals in 14 games, the Welsh international made another loan move this summer, this time to Pride Park.

And Wilson has been in equally impressive form so far this season, scoring eight goals in 17 games in all competitions, including a stunning free-kick as the Rams knocked Manchester United out of the League Cup at Old Trafford in September.

That form has led many Liverpool fans to question whether Wilson could be recalled to Anfield to help Jurgen Klopp strengthen his attacking options as they go toe-to-toe with Manchester City for the Premier League title.

When asked to clear the No.7’s situation up for Derby fans, Lampard told reporters: “There is an element where Liverpool can call him back in early January.

“That is a conversation between the clubs.

“Liverpool run a fantastic department in terms of looking after their loans players. We have a lot of chat with them. We will just have to see how that goes.”

Lampard did, however, say that he would like Wilson to remain at Derby for the rest of the season, adding that the 21-year-old is ‘progressing well’ playing for the Championship club.

“At the minute he’s our player,” he continued. “Of course we want him to stay our player for the course of the season because he is contributing.

“Since Harry came there has been constant dialogue with myself, Liverpool and Harry. It is very open conversation.

“For me, he is here to progress, and he is progressing well. I hope he stays with us because I think we can work well for each other.”

Derby have made a strong start to life under Lampard and currently sit seventh in the Championship, just six points off the top of the league.

The Rams travel to Wigan Athletic on Saturday.
