Neville: There are three Liverpool players Guardiola would love to have in City's XI

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola would swap his best three forwards for Liverpool’s, according to football pundit Gary Neville.

City lost 2-0 away to Chelsea at the weekend which saw Liverpool leapfrog the Citizens into first place in the Premier League table.

Would Pep swap for Liverpool’s famous trio? Four things to know…

  1. Liverpool beat Bournemouth 4-0 on Saturday to stretch their unbeaten start in the Premier League to 16 matches
  2. Last season, Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane scored a combined total of 57 Premier League goals
  3. In comparison, City’s front three of Sergio Aguero, Leroy Sane and Raheem Sterling scored a combined total of 49 Premier League goals
  4. Despite scoring eight times fewer than Liverpool’s first-choice attackers, City ran away with the league title

Former Manchester United full-back turned Sky Sports football pundit Neville, insists that if Guardiola was given the chance to swap his three City strikers for Jurgen Klopp’s array of forwards, he would do so due to the incredible all-around ability of the Reds’ frontline.

“If you said to Pep privately ‘would you swap your front three for that front three’, I think he would,” he said on Sky Sports’ Monday Night Football (via the Express).

“I think that’s the best front three in the Premier League. It is absolutely incredible. It has everything.

“In possession and out of possession they are absolutely devastating. I haven’t got a bad word to say about them.”

This season’s form – a comparison

Liverpool are top of the league after going unbeaten for 16 matches. But does the mean they have scored more goals? The answer is, no.

City have scored 11 more goals (45) than Liverpool (34) who seem to have improved their defensive stability, allowing more margin for error at the other end of the pitch.

At this stage, Mohamed Salah leads the goalscoring charts in the Premier League (10 goals, four assists), averaging a goal every 131 minutes.

City pairing Sergio Aguero and Raheem Sterling have both netted eight times with Sterling providing two more assists (six) than his Argentinian teammate (four).

The duo of Leroy Sane and Sadio Mane have both scored six times, meaning at the moment at least, there is little difference between the two trios stats wise but both seem to fit admirably in their respective manager’s tactical plans.
