Can Maurizio Sarri save his Chelsea job?

The problems are stacking up for Chelsea manager Maurizio Sarri.

Everything appeared to be rosy back in November as the Italian manager oversaw a 12-game unbeaten start to life at Stamford Bridge.

But those heights must feel like an awful long time ago as his long-term future in west London is being called into question after costly defeats to Bournemouth, Manchester City and Manchester United.

‘Sarri-ball’ was once flavour of the month but the 60-year-old’s preferred system has fallen flat as opponents have figured out how to stifle the passing presence of Jorginho.

A Europa League tie against Malmo and the Carabao Cup final both offer the chance of a reprieve, but it looks increasingly likely that Chelsea may opt to make a managerial change.

Roman Abramovich is far from the most patient of owners and, with the Blues’ hopes of securing Champions League next season very much in the balance, a reshuffle may soon be on the cards.

But why has it all gone wrong for Sarri? And why has he been unable to translate the success he enjoyed at Napoli onto the Premier League stage?

Is the writing really on the wall for Sarri’s tenure in SW6? Or will he be able to turn things around and come good at Chelsea?
