Manchester United booked a place in the FA Cup quarter-finals at the expense of holders Chelsea in a replay of last year’s final at Stamford Bridge.
Ander Herrera and Paul Pogba bagged the goals in a 2-0 victory to pour further misery on Maurizio Sarri’s men.
Both teams came into Monday evening’s showdown on the back of recent disappointing results: Chelsea were mauled 6-0 at Manchester City whilst United fell to a 0-2 loss at home against Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League.
With the oldest national football competition representing both sides’ best chance of silverware this campaign, albeit the west Londoners remain strong in the Europa League and will contest this weekend’s League Cup against City, it was no surprise to see Sarri and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer fielding their strongest available teams.
Here’s how the players rated at Stamford Bridge:
Chelsea
Kepa – 5 – Began well and looked assured, making some key saves, but should have done better for Pogba’s goal.
César Azpilicueta – 5 – Kept playing on the front foot, though looked susceptible whenever United countered.
Antonio Rüdiger – 4 – Booked in the second half for an overzealous challenge.
David Luiz – 5 – Never stopped willing his teammates on, but his tireless efforts were in vain.

COME ON CHELSEA.

Marcos Alonso – 3 – Regularly provided overlapping support as Chelsea initially enjoyed great joy on the flanks, but was caught napping when Herrera put the visitors in front and looked vulnerable when forced to defend.
N’Golo Kanté – 4 – Hasn’t always looked comfortable in a more advanced role under Sarri and this was yet another example.
Jorginho – 4 – Wasn’t given time and room to breath with questions regarding his role set to continue.
Mateo Kovacic – 3 – Aside from winning a dangerous free-kick inside the opening moments failed to quieten his naysayers.
Pedro – 4 – Couldn’t get into the game and was hooked off less than 15 minutes into the second half.
Gonzalo Higuaín – 5 – Started promisingly, but couldn’t impose himself, was closed down whenever he advanced towards goal.
Eden Hazard – 6 – Never stopped dribbling and was somewhat back to his scintillating best, but at times it felt like he was Chelsea’s entire attack.
Here we go! Chelsea v Man Utd in the FA Cup!

Substitutes:
Willian (on for Pedro 58) – 4 – Had an opportunity to half the deficit but skyed a dangerous free-kick over Sergio Romero’s goal.
Ross Barkely (on for Mateo Kovacic 71) – 3 – Struggled to get into the game as Chelsea started to become bereft of ideas.
Davide Zappacosta (on for César Azpilicueta 82) – N/A – A late sub.

Manchester United
Sergio Romero – 5 – Made some important saves early on, most notably from a Luiz free-kick.
Ashley Young – 5 – At times left exposed which the likes of Hazard and Pedro took advantage of. Was booked after a late challenge on the former.
Chris Smalling – 6 – Returned to United’s starting line-up and seldom put a foot wrong.

Victor Lindelöf – 7 – Another calm and steady performance which illustrates why he’s now United’s first choice centre back.
Luke Shaw – 6 – Made a brilliant challenge to deny Pedro a goalscoring opportunity early into the second half.
Ander Herrera – 8 – Produced an excellent run from deep to give United the lead. Headed past a rooted Kepa from an excellent Pogba cross. Screened the Red Devils defence well.
Nemanja Matic – 5 – Cautioned after just 15 minutes following a rash challenge on Hazard, but remained steadfast in his duties, though was fortunate not to be sent off against his former club.
Paul Pogba – 8 – Put the recent sending off against PSG behind him as he produced yet another Roy of the Rovers performance by setting up Herrera before scoring United’s second after starting the counter that lead to it himself.
15 – Paul Pogba has been directly involved in 15 goals in 12 games in all competitions under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer (9 goals, 6 assists), six more than he managed in 20 games under Jose Mourinho this season (5 goals, 4 assists). Ruthless. #CHEMUN pic.twitter.com/BloJh38TpD

Juan Mata – 6 –Played a smart and tidy game, his razor-sharp brain made up for not being the quickest.
Romelu Lukaku – 6 – Never looked comfortable playing out on the flanks, wasn’t afforded the same level of freedom Arsenal gave him in the previous round.
Marcus Rashford – 7 – Kept interchanging positions with Lukaku and never stopped moving. Played a wicked cross for Pogba to double United’s lead.
Substitutes:
Alexis Sanchez (on for Romelu Lukaku 73) – 4 – Came on and immediately picked up United’s tempo as he was constantly pressing Chelsea’s backline.
Andreas Pereira (on for Juan Mata 76) – 4 – Didn’t have much to do, but in fairness Perreira wasn’t troubled in the brief time he was on the pitch.
Scott McTominay (on for Marcus Rashford 90+3) – N/A – A late sub.
