Man Utd and Chelsea target signs new contract with current club

Juventus defender Alex Sandro has signed a new four-and-a-half year contract with the Serie A champions despite reported interest from Manchester United and Chelsea.

Sandro has made 134 appearances for Juventus since joining from Porto in 2015, winning the Serie A title in each of his three seasons at the club.

Alex Sandro’s new contract: Five key things to know…

  1. Alex Sandro arrived at Juventus from Porto at the beginning of the 2015/16 campaign.
  2. His performances have seen him earn plaudits as one of the best wing-backs in Europe.
  3. The Brazilian was heavily linked with a move to either Manchester United or Chelsea over the summer.
  4. But Sandro has extended his stay with Juventus until the summer June 2023.
  5. According to reports in Italy, the 27-year-old is now the 10th highest-paid player in Serie A.

In total, Sandro has won three Serie A titles and three Copa Italia trophies with Juventus, and he will be hoping to add the Champions League to his list of honours this season.

The 13-time Brazil international said he is “very happy” to remain with Juventus in an Instagram post.

“I thank all the people who helped me arrive where I am today,” he wrote, as translated by Football Italia.

“I am very happy to continue being part of the Juventus family.”

Is Alex Sandro better than what Chelsea and Man Utd already have?

Ashley Young and Luke Shaw have been competing for the left-back spot at Old Trafford this season, while Marcos Alonso has played in 16 of Chelsea’s 17 Premier League games.

Sandro has created 2.04 chances per 90 minutes in league games so far this term, more than Young (1.18), Shaw (0.85) and Alonso (1).

Young is the most frequent crosser of the four, producing 1.64 per 90 minutes to Sandro’s 0.81. Both Young and Sandro have provided two assists, while Shaw has one and Alonso has three.

Sandro also comes out on top when it comes to total duels, winning 7.28 per 90 minutes. Check out our Squawka Rankings for more statistics.
