Salah-Dybala swap deal rumours rubbished by ex-Liverpool star

Former Liverpool striker Ian Rush has rubbished talk of a potential swap deal involving Mohamed Salah and Juventus forward Paulo Dybala.

Reports in Italy, via the Daily Mail, have tipped Juventus to make a £44 million – plus Dybala – offer for Salah but Rush thinks the rumours are wide of the mark.

Salah vs Dybala: Five key things to know…

  1. Salah has scored 20 goals in 34 appearance across all competitions this season and is in pole position to win a second successive Premier League Golden Boot.
  2. Dybala has scored eight goals in 29 games this term, including just three in 21 Serie A matches.
  3. Salah usually plays on the left of a front three for Liverpool but this season he has sometimes played centrally with Roberto Firmino dropping into the No. 10 role.
  4. Dybala has been playing in behind Cristiano Ronaldo and Mario Mandzukic of late and so isn’t expected to chip in with as many goals as Salah.
  5. Salah has provided eight assists in all competitions this season; Dybala has provided six.

Salah has emerged as one of the best players in Europe since joining Liverpool in the summer of 2017 and the Egyptian would arguably force his way into any side, including Juventus.

But Rush can’t see Liverpool allowing Salah to depart – or the 26-year-old wanting to leave Anfield – regardless of Dybala being included in the deal.

“I think Salah will stay at Liverpool,” Rush told Italian outlet Corriere Torino.

“The fans love him and he is fine here. He signed a new contract, I do not think the exchange will be made.”

Rush: Arsenal’s decision to let Ramsey leave for nothing “strange”

Rush also had his say on Aaron Ramsey, who has agreed to join Juventus in the summer when his contract with Arsenal comes to an end.

The former Wales international, who played for Juventus between spells with Liverpool, has said he does not understand why Arsenal allowed Ramsey to run down his contract.

“It’s something I really can not understand, but he’s never been in [Unai] Emery’s plans,” Rush added.

“Tactically, he is an offensive footballer while Arsenal have played especially with defensive midfielders this season. But it’s a strange decision.”
