Paris Saint-Germain boss Thomas Tuchel has not asked the club hierarchy to reinstate Adrien Rabiot after the player was suspended in December.
Rabiot was suspended indefinitely by PSG’s sporting director Antero Henrique after the France international reused to pen a new contract with the club.
What is Rabiot’s contract situation? Five things to know…
- Rabiot will see his present contract expire at the end of the season.
- French outlet RMC Sport have claimed Rabiot has called off talks with the Parisians after the club tabled an offer.
- It is reported that Rabiot is unhappy to be earning significantly less than some of his teammates – he is presently on around £55,000 per week.
- Rabiot has previously opened the door on a move away from the club.
- French publication Paris United have suggested president Nasser Al-Khelaifi recently told sporting director Henrique to cancel negotiations with Rabiot after it emerged he had been told the club would be open to transferring him to Barca.
A January move was mooted for the 23-year-old, but a transfer has not materialised and Rabiot remains indefinitely benched, a situation that Tuchel accepts.
“His situation remains the same. I have not asked for him to be reinstated. The situation remains the same — he is suspended & I accept the club’s stance on that. Nothing has changed.”
Rabiot is unlikely to be reinstated at the club unless he signs a new deal, as Henrique is adamant that the Frenchman will not play another game until he signs on the dotted line.
“The player informed me that he will not be signing a new contract and that he wants to leave the club as a free agent at the end of the season [also the end of his contract],” Henrique told Yahoo Sports in December.
Henrique added that Rabiot and his representation have disrespected PSG fans by misleading the club for several months.

“For the player, the consequences are clear — he is indefinitely benched.”
Where next for Rabiot?
Rabiot was linked with Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur during the January transfer window, but a transfer never materialised and the Frenchman remains on the bench.
Spurs reportedly offered Rabiot a signing-on fee worth £5m and a contract worth £7m a year, but Rabiot stalled on the move, favouring a potential transfer to Liverpool.
Any club who wishes to make a move for the midfielder will have to be conscious of his notoriously bad attitude which has seen him suspended twice at PSG, while in the summer Rabiot refused to be a stand-in for France’s eventual World Cup-winning squad.
