Liverpool confirm Joe Gomez leg fracture

Liverpool defender Joe Gomez looks set to be out for at least six weeks as the club confirmed he has sustained a ‘fracture to the low left leg’.

Gomez sustained the injury during Liverpool’s 3-1 win over Burnley at Turf Moor last night, with the England international being stretchered off after 23 minutes.

And the club have confirmed the nature of the injury via their official website, with a statement that read: “Liverpool can confirm Joe Gomez sustained a fracture to the lower left leg during the 3-1 win at Burnley on Wednesday night.

“Gomez’s injury was further assessed by the Reds’ medical team at Melwood on Thursday.

“Initial indications suggest the 21-year-old is facing a spell of up to six weeks out of action, though this is dependent on how his treatment and rehabilitation programmes progress.”

The injury to Gomez comes just as Liverpool face a run of eight games in just under a month, with Dejan Lovren and Joel Matip set to deputise.

The Reds are two points behind Premier League leaders Manchester City and face Bournemouth away in their next game on Saturday.
