Watford announce deal to sign Brazilian youngster in 2020

Watford have announced a deal to sign Fluminense youngster Joao Pedro in January 2020.

The talented Brazilian forward has impressed for the club’s youth teams and his contract will begin on the 1st January 2020, when he turns 18.

A statement on Watford’s official website read: “The Hornets are delighted to confirm they have reached an agreement with Brazilian club Fluminense to sign exciting young talent João Pedro.

“The contract, which will commence on January 1, 2020, once the youngster has turned 18, will be five years in length and we look forward to welcoming Pedro to Watford FC during next season.”

The next Richarlison?

Joao Pedro will become the second Brazilian attacker that the Hornets have signed from Fluminense in recent times.

It is still very early days in his career but if Pedro can emulate his compatriot then he will go on to have a very successful Premier League career.

Richarlison made a strong start to life at Watford last season but a loss of form after the departure of manager Marco Silva saw the winger end the season with five goals from 41 appearances.

However, Richarlison followed Silva to Everton in the summer in a move worth a reported £40 million and has well and truly rediscovered his form, scoring four goals in seven games for the Toffees so far and becoming an integral member of Silva’s new-look side at Goodison Park.

This form has also seen him earn a call-up to the Brazilian national team, scoring twice in his first four caps.
