Football manager 2019 sim: Who are in the team of the season for the next 10 years?

The release of Football Manager 2019 is looming on the horizon, and we’re desperate to get stuck in!

In true Football Manager fashion, we’re already simulating through things to see what the future may hold. And after the controversies FIFPro’s World XI generated at The Best awards earlier this year, we thought we’d look into the future to see who would take their place in the hallowed side in FM’s future.

Read on to see who made the FIFPro World XI every year between 2018 and 2027 when we simmed the next 10 seasons on FM 19.

2018

Manuel Neuer; Dani Alves, Sergio Ramos, Leonardo Bonucci, Marcelo; Marco Verratti, Philippe Coutinho; Leo Messi, Roberto Firmino, Neymar; Gonzalo Higuain

FM’s prediction for 2018 is three quarters correct on the defence, with Dani Alves, Sergio Ramos and Marcelo retaining their real spots. but in the world of FM, Leonardo Bonucci returns to Juve and dominates to go alongside there.

In the world of FM, Barcelona succeeded in converting Philippe Coutinho into a central midfielder as he plays there next to Marco Verratti. Messi and Neymar are obvious picks, but the real shock comes with Gonzalo Higuain leading the line!

2019

Ederson; Dani Carvajal, Sergio Ramos, Leonardo Bonucci, Kieran Tierney; Bernardo Silva, Sergej Milinkovic-Savic; Leo Messi, Isco, Cristiano Ronaldo; Antoine Griezmann

Once again Ramos and Bonucci remain an immovable object at the heart of defence but the full-backs change. Kieran Tierney earns a big move to Arsenal and makes a big splash in the big team.

Bernardo Silva’s impressive 18 goal haul sees him anchor midfield next to the Sergej Milinkovic-Savic, who is now at Chelsea. Cristiano Ronaldo’s 27 goals put him back in the side next to Messi and Isco, but only Antoine Griezmann gets to the 30 goal total this year.

2020

Thibaut Courtois; Cesar Azpilicueta, Leonardo Bonucci, Milan Skriniar, Sergio Escudero; Sergej Milinkovic-Savic, Leon Goretzka; Leo Messi, Paulo Dybala, Cristiano Ronaldo; Paulo Dybala

Courtois finally finds his groove at Real Madrid, getting into the side. Bonucci continues to be a rock in defence whilst he’s joined by Chelsea pair Azpilicueta and Skriniar (signed for £58m). Manchester City pinch Sergio Escudero and he helps them win the Premier League.

Milinkovic-Savic is still in midfield as his goals helped Chelsea power to a Europa League and FA Cup double. Messi (at this point 33 years old) plays alongside his protegé Paulo Dybala and Dybala’s team-mate Cristiano Ronaldo behind Antoine Griezmann who retains his place.

2021

Thibaut Courtois; Nelson Semedo, Leonardo Bonucci, Sergio Ramos, Kieran Tierney; Timo Werner, Kevin De Bruyne; Kylian Mbappé, Robert Lewandwski, Philippe Coutinho; Cristiano Ronaldo

Courtois and Bonucci are back. Sergio Ramos makes a return as does Kieran Tierney for helping Arsenal finish second. By this time, Timo Werner has moved to Bayern and is (somehow) playing centre midfield alongside Kevin De Bruyne, even though City surrendered their Premier League title to Manchester United.

Nelson Semedo and Kylian Mbappé (who has a massive 32 goals) represent Champions League winning PSG whilst Coutinho takes over for Messi despite the Argentine having a better season in almost every way. Cristiano Ronaldo has one final great season.

2022

David De Gea; Benjamin Henrichs, Alessio Romagnoli, Andreas Christensen, Kieran Tierney; Kevin De Bruyne, Sergej Milinkovic-Savic; Mohamed Salah, Antoine Griezman, Neymar; Kylian Mbappé

David De Gea is still at Manchester United an alongside Alessio Romagnoli represents United who won the Premier League for the second time in a row. Barcelona brought Andreas Christensen for a whopping £121m but even though he earned a spot in the side he couldn’t stop Real Madrid winning La Liga for the third time in a row.

Milinkovic-Savic is back in the side and back banging in the goals. Kevin De Bruyne and Benjamin Henrichs represent for Champions League winners Manchester City whilst Mohamed Salah makes a surprise return to relevance even though Liverpool won nothing. Neymar helps Brazil win the World Cup, so takes his place here.

2023

Geronimo Rulli; Benjamin Henrichs, Matthijs de Ligt, Marquinhos, Kieran Tierney; Sergej Milinkovic-Savic, Kylian Mbappé; Harry Kane, Bernardo Silva, Maximiliano Romero; José Vicente

Geronimo Rulli, Marquinhos and Kylian Mbappé all feature having helped PSG to a second Champions League in three seasons. Matthijs de Ligt is the latest big money Barcelona defender to feature having cost the Blaugrana £101m.

Milinkovic-Savic is still doing the business except now he’s being partnered by Kylian Mbappé (in central midfield, apparently) and his 31 goals. Harry Kane joined Manchester United for a hefty £106m but he finally gets into the side now even as they finished third.

Meanwhile Premier League winning Manchester City are represented by Henrichs and Bernardo Silva making returns as well as the first regen to feature: José Vicente. The Spaniard was signed from Valencia for £78m and his 40 goals signalled his arrival.

2024

Marc-André Ter Stegen; Alvaro Odriozola, Matthijs de Ligt, Benjamin Pavard, Kieran Tierney; Harry Kane, Alessio Riccardi; Kylian Mbappé, Mohamed Salah, Fabio Silva; José Vicente

Barcelona won their first La Liga since 2018/19 in 2023/24, so De Ligt and Marc-André Ter Stegen feature. Kieran Tierney continues to be the best left-back that doesn’t win anything. Harry Kane has converted to midfielder but can still hammer in the goals.

He is partnered by Alessio Riccardi, a current Roma youngster who makes his way to City via Bayern Munich. Riccardi plays alongside a returning José Vicente but the man who powered Chelsea to a Premier League title win is Fabio Silva, a Porto youngster who Chelsea signed for “just” £63m a year previously.

2025

Thibaut Courtois; Alvaro Odriozola, Matthijs de Ligt, Andreas Christensen, Theo Hernandez; Kylian Mbappé, Sergej Milinkovic-Savic; Mohamed Salah, Pietro Pellegri, José Vicente; Harry Kane

Real Madrid won La Liga, so Thibaut Courtois, Alvaro Odriozola and Theo Hernandez represent for them. De Ligt has signed moved to PSG and helped them win the Champions League but somehow Barcelona’s Andreas Christensen is still in the side (was there a quota?)

Milinkovic-Savic etc. etc. etc. you get the drill by now. Mbappé is back “in” midfield despite his 30 goals being essential to PSG’s glory. José Vicente and Harry Kane rep for Manchester again, but Pietro Pellegri inclusion is the surprise, based entirely off his individual genius.

2026

Thibaut Courtois; Pablo Maffeo, Andreas Christensen, Milan Skriniar, Theo Hernandez; Harry Kane, Sergej Milinkovic-Savic; Kylian Mbappé, David Butler, Anthony Martial; Angel Cortés

Barcelona reclaim La Liga, so their quota is expanded with Pablo Maffeo and Anthony Martial (signed from Spurs for £98m, after he signed for them from Borussia Dortmund) joining Christensen.

Milinkovic-Savic is back (again) but this time he’s bringing Milan Skriniar with him as the pair helped Chelsea win the Champions League! Alongside them is David Butler, a regen who came through Brighton’s academy system and was signed for £135m. Money well spent!

Harry Kane and Kylian Mbappé resume their regular places, but the list is shaken up by the inclusion of Bayern’s Angel Cortés, signed from Real Madrid for £86m, the Spanish regen tore the Bundesliga to pieces and helped Bayern win (again).

2027

Thibaut Courtois; Joshua Kimmich, Benjamin Pavard, Andreas Christensen, Kieran Tierney; Sergej Milinkovic-Savic, Arne Maier; Mohamed Salah, Andy Clarke, José Vicente; Angel Cortés

The game of hot potato in Spain continued as Barcelona dropped La Liga back to Real Madrid, hence Thibaut Courtois and Benjamin Pavard’s inclusion. ANgel Cortes is back (with a wholly 42 goals!) and he’s brought Arne Maier (signed from Hertha for just £48.5m, a ball-playing defensive midfielder) and Joshua Kimmich with him.

Andreas Christensen is still there (that quota is serious business) as is Milinkovic-Savic, making his seventh appearance. José Vicente and Mohamed Salah are still around whilst Manchester United’s Andy Clarke, an English regen signed for “just” £48.5m joins them.

But the real shock, and the best way to close this off, is Kieran Tierney. The Scottish left-back is making yet another appearance but this time it’s as a result of helping Arsenal win the Champions League! Yes, that’s right! Arsenal! Frank de Boer was in charge as the Gunners beat Antonio Conte’s PSG 1-0 thanks to a goal from Youri Tielemans. An iconic display.
