Former Manchester City striker Álvaro Negredo hails Fernandinho as near irreplaceable in Pep Guardiola’s midfield.
Negredo spent two seasons at the Etihad, winning the 2013/14 Premier League title with them and bagged 23 goals across all competitions.
Fernandinho has become a crucial part of City’s success with near-unparalleled abilities to quarter-back games at the base of midfield.
The 33-year-old Brazilian is a good friend of Negredo’s and the Spanish striker has been singing his praises, describing him as a “complete player.”
“Fernandinho is a very good friend of mine,” he told Goal.
“He is a player you find everywhere in the pitch, with good quality to manage the ball.
“He recovers many balls for his team and that makes him a very complete player. I think that replacing him will be a real problem for the club.”
City will not be looking to replace Fernandinho any time soon as the Brazilian shows no signs of slowing down and has appeared in all of the club’s Premier League fixtures as well as playing in all of their Champions League games so far.
Negredo left City in 2014 to return to Spain where he plied his trade with Valencia for a couple of seasons before returning to the Premier League with Middlesbrough in 2016.
The Spaniard, 33, is now winding down his career with Turkish side Besiktas for whom he has appeared 46 times, scoring 18 goals across all competitions .
City defend their unbeaten league record when they face Tottenham Hotspur on Monday evening in what could be a season-defining clash for both clubs.
A win for Mauricio Pochettino’s men could see them come within two points of current league leaders Liverpool, while a City would return to the top of the table if they take all the points at Wembley.
