Paul Pogba’s stutter-run made my job easier, says Jordan Pickford

Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba’s decision to stutter his penalty run-up made it easier for Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford to save, according to the Toffees ‘keeper.

United defeated the Toffee’s 2-1 at Old Trafford on Sunday which saw the Red Devils overtake Marco Silva’s men and move to eighth in the Premier League table.

Goals from Pogba – on the rebound from his missed penalty – and Anthony Martial was enough to claim the three points for Jose Mourinho’s side, with Glyfi Sigurdsson scoring for the visitors.

Pickford – who last week saved a penalty from Crystal Palace midfielder Luka Milivojević – did his best to keep a clean sheet by saving Pogba’s penalty kick which saw the Frenchman criticised for his lackadaisical run-up.

England’s No.1 has revealed that the slow approach that Pogba took made it easier for him to guess which way to dive and gave him more of a chance to deny the United man of scoring.

“When he did his run-up I knew where he was going to go and I saved it, but unfortunately it went back out,” Pickford told Everton’s club website.

“I did my research and made the save. Even if it even goes three yards out to his left or right, I’ve got enough time to get up and make the save from the rebound but it wasn’t to be.”

United have only won twice in the league since September 15 with pressure remaining on Mourinho.

They are five points off the top-four and currently nine points behind Premier League leaders and arch-rivals Liverpool.
