Jose Mourinho will return to Real Madrid one day, says ex-club president

Jose Mourinho will return to Real Madrid at some point in the future, according to former Madrid president Ramon Calderon.

The United boss could be a surprise Madrid link with current coach Julen Lopetegui under fire after a dismal start to the Spanish season sees Los Blancos in ninth.

Mourinho left the Spanish club in 2013 but Calderon believes the club will appoint Jose Mourinho for a second time ‘sooner or later’.

Florentino Perez, the current Real Madrid president, is thought to be an admirer of the Portuguese.

“If this president is with the team for a few years, and I think he will be, Mourinho will be here,” Calderon told ESPN FC, via Football Espana.

“No doubt. It’s the only Coach the president has respected.

“For better or worse. I think he will be here – if he leaves Manchester, of course. But sooner or later, I think he will be here.”

“Selling Ronaldo? I think it’s been a big mistake, a historic mistake in many senses, and with no replacement!

“There’s no way to find someone to substitute a player like Ronaldo, so [it is] a big mistake.

“If you see that the €100m we’ve received has been spent on two players: one is in Brazil, Rodrygo, and the other [Vinicius Jr.] is playing in Castilla [Madrid’s reserve team].

“It’s something very weird. I have all the respect for Mariano [Diaz], but now he has many things to show until he can be at the level of Cristiano.”

Real Madrid next take on Malilla in the Copa del Rey in a must-win game for Lopetegui, though in truth he may not be long for the job should the next few games go his way anyway.

United, under Mourinho, face Bournemouth away on Saturday in what will be a crucial game for both sides, with the Cherries looking to assert their claim on the European spots with a victory over United, who are just two spots beneath them in eighth.
