Besiktas say they would happily let Guti make Real Madrid return

Besiktas president Fikret Orman has revealed the club would allow assistant manager Guti to return to Real Madrid, though no approach has been made.

Guti left Madrid in the summer, having managed the club’s Juvenil side for five years, to become assistant manager to Senol Gunes at Besiktas.

But the former Madrid midfielder is now being linked with a return to Los Blancos with the future of current manager Julen Lopetegui currently in doubt.

But, despite Orman saying Guti would deserve to manage Real Madrid, the Besiktas president insists they have not received an approach.

“We have not been spoken to about him yet, but we would be happy to facilitate Guti should Real Madrid ask the question,” he said (via Football Espana).

“For us, it would be heartening to see Guti return to Madrid because he would merit the role and that is why we are so happy to currently have him here.”

Guti spent the large majority of his playing career at Real Madrid, having come through Los Blancos’ academy. The Spaniard made 542 appearances for the club and won a plethora of trophies including five La Liga titles and three Champions League crowns.

The midfielder would spend one season with Besiktas between 2010 and 2011 before retiring.

Julen Lopetegui’s poor start

Since taking over in the summer, Lopetegui has so far failed to emulate the man he replaced – Zinedine Zidane.

Despite kicking off with a 4-2 defeat to Atletico Madrid in the Uefa Super Cup, Real Madrid did start the season well with five wins in six games across all competitions.

But this was followed by a downturn in performances and results. A 0-0 draw with Atletico in the league was the first of three consecutive games in which Real failed to score, including two 1-0 defeats to CSKA Moscow and Alaves respectively.

Then, last time out in the league, Real lost 2-1 at home to Levante to heap more pressure on Lopetegui.
