Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is impressed with Sadio Mane’s threshold for pain as he played through a broken thumb on Saturday.
The Reds eased past Cardiff City on Saturday with a 4-1 victory at Anfield to momentarily go top of the Premier League table.
Mane was nursing a broken thumb he picked up while on international duty with Senegal earlier in October.
Despite the injury Mane soldiered on, bagging himself a brace and an assist in the process as his side dismantled the Bluebirds on Saturday afternoon. This came after rhe Reds’ 4-0 victory over Red Star Belgrade in the Champions League; the Senegal international got himself on the scoresheet in that game too.
Mane’s determination to play through the pain has impressed his boss, who indicated he himself might have opted for the bench in the same circumstances.
“He has a broken thumb and plays with a brace,” Klopp said (via Goal).
“I wouldn’t feel comfortable, to be honest but he obviously ignores it pretty well! His first goal he gets a goal and an assist! Very good performance. I’m completely happy with that.”
Mane has bagged six goals in nine games so far in the Premier League this season, placing him in joint-second place in the league’s top scorers with Sergio Aguero, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Glenn Murray one behind Eden Hazard who has seven.
The former Southampton man has also scored one more than team-mate and last season’s Golden Boot winner Mohamed Salah, but the 26-year-old winger will have to maintain this level if he hopes for that to continue, as the Egyptian has only just got out of first gear this season.
Liverpool’s are unbeaten in their open 10 games of the Premier League, a record which will be tested again next weekend when they take on Arsenal at the Emirates.
