Mesut Ozil picks his favourite stadium – and it’s not the Emirates

Arsenal playmaker Mesut Ozil has named Real Madrid’s stadium, the Santiago Bernabeu, as his favourite venue to play football in.

Ozil has been in fine form of late for Arsenal, providing a goal and an assist as part of a mesmerising performance in the 3-1 Premier League victory over Leicester City earlier this week.

The German, who joined Arsenal from Real Madrid in 2013, has made 204 appearances across all competitions for the Gunners, winning three FA Cups along the way. Monday’s goal, in fact, saw him become the top-scoring German footballer in Premier League history with 30 goals, ahead of former Spurs striker Jurgen Klinsmann.

But it seems Ozil still has an affinity with his former club.

During a Twitter Q&A on Wednesday, the 30-year-old was asked which stadium is his favourite to play in, to which he answered: “Santiago Bernabeu.”

#AskMesut

It’s safe to say a number Arsenal supporters were surprised to see Ozil opt against picking the Emirates, especially after he had enjoyed one of his best ever performances at the stadium 48 prior.

Still, Ozil gave plenty of answers that pleased Gunners fans throughout the #AskMesut Q&A.

He revealed wearing the captain’s armband against Leicester was an “amazing feeling” before labelling Matteo Guendouzi as the best young player in the current squad.

Check out some of his other responses below.
