Dortmund rising star Bruun Larsen would rather play for Real Madrid than win a title

Borussia Dortmund youngster Jacob Bruun Larsen says playing for Real Madrid would give him a greater satisfaction than winning a big title.

The 20-year-old forward joined BVB’s youth set-up from Danish club Lyngby in 2015, before embarking on a brief loan spell at fellow Bundesliga outfit VfB Stuttgart earlier this year.

Since returning in the summer, he has become a fixture under manager Lucien Favre with his performances attracting the attention of many, but not 13-time European champions Real, who Bruun Larsen feels are the pinnacle.

“For me personally, it would be bigger to play for Real Madrid than to win a big title. If you can play for Real Madrid every day, and you can be a regular there, that’s just the greatest thing. Because then you’re one of the very best – one of the 11 best players in the world,” he told Danish TV show ‘Sat Af’.

The native of Lyngby, though, is North Rhine-Westphalia, adding: “I’d be happy to stay at Dortmund for the rest of my career if I can.”

Bruun Larsen’s story

Since moving from his native Denmark to Germany the left-winger has predominantly represented BVB at various youth level before representing VfB Stuttgart four times on loan last season.

His Dortmund debut, though, came during a DFB-Pokal win over Union Berlin in October 2016 under then boss Thomas Tuchel; he would play the opening 68 minutes before Ousmane Dembélé replaced him.

So far this season, he has played no fewer than seven matches in all competitions. Bruun Larsen, who is yet to win his first senior international cap, has repaid Lucien Favre’s trust by registering three goals, two of which came in five league outings, and creating a further two for his teammates.

Having established a place in the BVB’s starting eleven, he played 63 minutes of their 4-0 rout over Atlético Madrid in the Champions League; the Lyngby-born footballer is expected to line up against Hertha Berlin in their Bundesliga home fixture on Saturday.
