Barcelona confirm permanent Dortmund approach for in-form Alcacer

Bundesliga giants Borussia Dortmund have confirmed they intend to sign current loanee star Paco Alcacer on a permanent deal, according to parent club Barcelona.

Alcacer has been in electric form for Dortmund since his loan switch this summer and has clearly done enough to convince the German club to sign him as soon as possible.

The loan deal included a purchase fee of €30 million at the end of the 2018/19 campaign, which if Dortmund chooses to match, they have free reign to discuss permanent terms with the forward.

Barcelona CEO Oscar Grau confirmed the news via the Barcelona Times, highlighting Dortmund’s eagerness of keeping the Spanish striker playing for the BVB.

Grau said: “Borussia Dortmund have already told us of their intention to pay the clause and buy the player.”

Alcacer’s amazing start to life in Germany

The 25-year-old has been able to completely transform his game since his decision to move to Germany.

After moving to Barcelona from La Liga rivals Valencia in 2016 for a pricey €30 million, big things were expected of the talented centre-forward.

However, life at the Camp Nou wasn’t exactly what Alcacer or Barcelona anticipated. In 50 matches for the Catalonians, Alcacer scored 15 goals which, although is no real disgrace, isn’t good enough to warrant both his price tag and his place among the Barcelona starting eleven.

As a result, Alcacer made the decision to join Dortmund in the summer to get minutes under his belt but also try and get among the goals once more.

He has done just that.

Alcacer has proven his goalscoring credentials already this season, proving his worth to Dortmund and justifying their decision to bring him to the club.

The Spaniard has scored 11 goals in just 316 minutes of football – a goal every 28.7 minutes – with the first 10 of those strikes scored with his first 10 shots on target this season.

Despite Spain’s 3-2 defeat on home soil against Gareth Southgate’s Three Lions, Alcacer got his name on the scoresheet almost immediately after coming off the bench to take his tally to nine goals in 15 starts for his country.

Another goal in Borussia Dortmund’s 4-0 away win against Stuttgart on Saturday sees him tied as the Bundesliga’s top scorer with seven goals alongside 20-year-old Serbian Luka Jovic who scored five against Fortuna Dusseldorf a day before.
