Everton, Cardiff & other done deals you might have missed this week

The end of the transfer window is fast approaching and the clock is ticking for clubs looking to strengthen their squads for the end of the season.

And as the deadline starts to appear on the horizon, the rush to get deals over the line and players through the door intensifies.

A lot of the talk over the last week was about Leeds United signing three-time Champions League winning goalkeeper, Kiko Casilla, but what about the other deals that have gone through during that time?

Here are 12 deals you may have missed over the past week.

1. Mousa Dembele

From: Tottenham Hotspur

To: Guangzhou R&F

Fee: £11m

So this is a pretty high-profile one, but it would be rude not to mention. Had injuries not rid Mousa Dembele of any consistency during his time with Tottenham Hotspur, the Belgian may well have become one of the best midfielders in Europe, let alone the Premier League.

At 31-years-old, Dembele has now moved on to China with Guangzhou R&F.

2. Oumar Niasse

From: Everton

To: Cardiff City

Fee: Loan

Nobody can doubt Oumar Niasse’s attitude and endeavour on the pitch. The Senegalese striker would run himself through a brick wall for his teammates if asked. However, the fact is that he is simply not good enough for the ambitious plans at Everton at the moment. So, Niasse is now off to Cardiff in a loan deal to see if he can help Neil Warnock’s side pull off an unlikely Premier League survival.

3. Emiliano Sala

From: Nantes

To: Cardiff City

Fee: £15m

Sticking with Cardiff, it isn’t just loan deals that the Welsh side have been completing in this window. On Saturday, Cardiff brought a new Sala to the Premier League. Emiliano Sala to be precise. The Bluebirds have splashed out a club-record £15m on the Argentine, who they hope can continue his form this season after bagging 13 goals in 18 games for Nantes.

4. Yohan Benalouane

From: Leicester City

To: Nottingham Forest

Fee: Undisclosed

With just 29 appearances under his belt since his move to Leicester in 2015, it’s fair to say things haven’t worked out for Yohan Benalouane. The Algerian is on the move but staying in the Midlands with Championship side Nottingham Forest.

5. Samuel Grandsir

From: Monaco

To: Strasbourg

Fee: Loan

Thierry Henry has been overhauling his squad in an attempt to pull Monaco out of the desperate situation they’re in right now. Part of that overhaul has seen talented young winger Samuel Grandsir move to fellow Ligue 1 side Strasbourg, who hammered Monaco 5-1 at the weekend, on loan until the end of the season.

6. Keaton Parks

From: Benfica

To: New York City FC

Fee: Loan

Keaton Parks has been pulling up trees in the Benfica B team, helping him to earn his first USMNT cap last year. However, the 21-year-old midfielder has struggled to break into the Portuguese giant’s first team and is heading off on loan to MLS side New York City FC.

7. Markus Suttner

From: Brighton

To: Fortuna Dusseldorf

Fee: Loan

Markus Suttner was one of the most understated full-backs in the Bundesliga during his time with Ingolstadt but has failed to find any form or consistent playing time with Brighton. The Austrian is heading to Germany for a loan deal with Fortuna Dusseldorf.

8. Johan Djourou

From: SPAL

To: Released

Fee: n/a

Remember Johan Djourou? Well, the former Arsenal man is still playing but will have to find himself a new club after being released mid-season by Serie A side, SPAL. Now 32 years old, the Swiss defender made just six appearances for the Italian club.

9. Simone Scuffet

From: Udinese

To: Kasimpasa

Fee: Loan

Simone Scuffet was on the edge of brilliance and tipped to become Italy’s next No.1 just a couple of years ago but, for one reason or another, he has just not been able to hold his place down with Udinese. Scuffet is still only 22 years old, though, and has time to turn things around, starting with this loan move to Turkish Super Lig club, Kasimpasa.

10. Yangel Herrera

From: Manchester City

To: SD Huesca

Fee: Loan

Yangel Herrera was fantastic for New York City FC last season, once the Venezuelan finally recovered from ankle surgery. However, upon returning to parent club Man City, he was never really going to get a chance, was he? Fernandinho, Ilkay Gundogan and Fabian Delph rule the roost when it comes to the deep-lying midfield role at the Etihad. Herrera will now head out on loan again, this time with Spanish club, SD Huesca.

11. Joseph Minala

From: Lazio

To: Salernitana

Fee: Loan

Joseph Minala is still only 22. Seriously, we’re not winding you up. Tough paper round, huh?

Anyway, enough about that. The Cameroonian has hardly had a sniff at Lazio since coming into the first team picture in 2014, spending almost all of his time out on loan. That’s the case once again as Minala has gone for a second spell with Serie B side, Salernitana.

12. Stephane Mbia

From: Toulouse

To: Released

Fee: n/a

Since switching Marseille for QPR in 2012, Stephane Mbia has been a perennial nomad, turning out for Sevilla, Trabzonspor, Hebei China Fortune and Toulouse since then. The 32-year-old will once again be looking for a new club after being released from Toulouse with just five appearances and 447 minutes of football under his belt for the French side.
