PSG have confirmed Brazilian forward Neymar is not expected to return to the pitch until April due to a metatarsal injury, ruling him out of their Champions League tie with Manchester United.
The 26-year-old sustained the injury during in PSG’s 2-0 Coupe de France win over Strasbourg last week, forcing him off the pitch and leaving supporters worrying over his availability for their crucial Champions League clash.
Those fears have now been affirmed, with the French Champions releasing a statement that confirmed a group of ‘world-renowned experts’ have decided on a course of treatment which will keep him sidelined for up to 10 weeks, which Neymar has agreed to.
The full statement read: “On Tuesday evening, Paris Saint-Germain gathered together a group of world-renowned experts at the Ooredoo Training Centre to carry out a thorough review of the injury to Neymar Jr.’s right foot, sustained against RC Strasbourg in the Coupe de France round-of-16 match on 23 January.
“After detailed analysis by the specialists, a consensus was reached of a conservative treatment of Neymar Jr.’s injury to the fifth right metatarsal. Informed of this recommendation, Paris Saint-Germain’s Brazilian international striker agreed with this protocol. As a result, Neymar Jr. is expected to return to the field within 10 weeks.
“Paris Saint-Germain sends its strongest support and encouragement to Neymar Jr. to overcome this injury, with the courage and determination that the player has always shown.”

Neymar has scored 21 goals in 22 appearances so far this season, including five in the Champions League, and has helped the Parisians to move 13 points clear at the top of the Ligue 1 table, having two games in hand on second-placed Lille.
The former Barcelona man’s injury is an undoubted blow to PSG’s Champions League hopes, although their other first-choice forwards, Kylian Mbappe and Edinson Cavani, have scored 25 and 22 goals respectively this season.
PSG’s next game is away to Lyon on Sunday.
