Former Manchester United striker Andy Cole believes current caretaker manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is putting himself in a perfect position to get the job on a permanent basis.
United’s form has excelled this season since Solskjaer took on the role last month.

Andy Cole – who made 271 appearances for United, scoring 121 goals – believes that United’s form under Solskjaer’s guidance makes the Norwegian impossible to ignore for the permanent role come the end of the season.
The former England international told Sky Sports: “I look at Ole and I see that he is a student of the game.
“He was prepared to take in a lot of information and break it down and do what he thought was right with it.
“Looking at him, he is always speaking about Sir Alex [Ferguson] and what he takes from him and what he is trying to do with the players.
“That’s what the manager used to do with us. He was always talking to us to get the best from us. You can see Ole does that because after every game he is on the pitch with the players. A lot of the modern-day managers are doing that.
“Everyone wants to get the best from the players so you have to put your arm around them and show them that they are important to you.
“How do you keep your job? You have to win matches. If he continues to do that then nobody can turn around and say you shouldn’t get the job because he hasn’t done X, Y and Z.
“If this continues and Manchester United beat PSG [in the Champions League] and win midweek against Burnley then I don’t think you can look any further. He is gaining experience and winning matches and that is what everyone is asking him to do.”
The Solskjaer effect
The 45-year-old has certainly hit the ground running at Old Trafford since he took over from former Premier League winner Jose Mourinho at the back-end of last year.
Winning his first eight games in charge is nothing to sneer at, considering that he has encountered both Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur and beaten them both on their own turf.
The next few weeks could be crucial for Solskjaer and United, with Premier League matches against both Burnley and Leicester City coming up, presenting a real opportunity for the Red Devils to continue chasing down that elusive top-four spot.
In the Champions League, they face a tough task against Ligue 1 giants Paris Saint-Germain.
You feel if Solskjaer is able to lead United into the next round in Europe, those in power at Old Trafford may have no choice but to offer the baby-faced assassin the job on a permanent basis.
