Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp “needs a trophy” more than Tottenham Hotspur boss Mauricio Pochettino according to former midfielder Steve Sidwell.
The Reds are on course to win their first ever Premier League title and currently sit top of the table.

- Liverpool are four points clear of reigning Premier League champions Manchester City at the top of the table.
- They have only lost once in the league all season, coincidently against City in a 2-1 defeat at the Etihad.
- They are the second-highest goalscorers in the divison – City are first – and have conceded just 13 goals in 23 matches.
- Despite their obvious quality, third-placed Spurs look unlikely to win the league this season.
- Pochettino’s side were defeated in the EFL Cup semi-finals by Chelsea this week.
Former Reading and Chelsea midfielder Sidwell was discussing which manager needs a title to their name at their respective club more than the other.
Sidwell believes Klopp is the man who needs a trophy to his name due to the financial investement he has been given since his arrival in 2015.
On BT Sport (via the Daily Star), Robbie Savage said: “Who needs a trophy more, Poch or Klopp?
Sidwell answered: “Klopp all day long. Klopp all day long!
“The money that’s been spent, the amount of time that he’s been there. They’ve got to win a trophy this year. They have to.”
“How long’s Klopp been at Liverpool?” Chris Sutton asked, “How long’s Poch been at Spurs? That is absolutely the question. There’s more pressure on Poch.
“Pochettino needs it more.”
Can Liverpool win the league?
The Reds are flying high at the top of the Premier League with their squad now looking more balanced, disciplined and effective at both ends of the football pitch.
Last season their famous front trio of Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane established themselves as one of the most threatening attacking outlets in world football.
The last 12 months has seen Klopp tighten up the defence, with big-money signings Virgil van Dijk and Alisson both coming into the club and providing the vital cover that was needed at the back.
A mixture of youth and experience will serve Liverpool well and provide them with a squad that is strong enough to compete for titles in years to come.
Whether this year is the beginning of many remains to be seen.
