Jamie Redknapp has lavished praise on Liverpool midfielder Naby Keita following his Premier League debut against West Ham United, suggesting he’s been part of the Anfield furniture for eight years.
The 23-year-old Guinean international joined the Merseyside giants from Bundesliga outfit RB Leipzig this summer after the move was finalised a year ago.
Keita, donning the Reds number 8 shirt previously worn by legendary captain Steven Gerrard, didn’t take too long to impress former Liverpool stalwart Redknapp.
“Naby Keita, he’s been here eight minutes but it looks like he’s been here eight years,” he said on Sky Sports’ coverage of Liverpool against West Ham.
“He’s got a fantastic relationship with Sadio Mane already, he’s always looking to feed him.”
The story of Keita
A revelation in the Bundesliga following Leipzig’s promotion, the all-action midfielder was at the heartbeat behind of their improbable championship push in 2016/17, when he registered eight goals and created a further eight for his teammates.
He had joined the east German outfit in July 2016 after transferring from sister club Red Bull Salzburg where he bagged 20 goals and 11 assists across 81 matches in all competitions.
His final season for Leipzig saw him yield six goals and five assists in 27 league appearances but his influence wasn’t enough to see them finish above sixth place.
Keita’s first Premier League outing for the Reds saw him register a single shot on goal whilst creating one scoring opportunity.
