Man City make Croatian rising star Ante Palaversa their second January signing

Manchester City have completed the signing of Croatia U19 midfielder Ante Palaversa from Hajduk Split.

The reigning Premier League champions have splashed out a reported £4.1m fee for the 18-year-old, who will remain on loan at Hajduk on loan until the summer of 2020.

Palaversa has 11 caps for Croatia’s U19 side and has been lauded as one of the country’s most talented youngsters right now, with some comparing him to Germany and Real Madrid midfielder, Toni Kroos, due to his comfort in possession and robust approach without it.

Speaking to the official Hajduk Split website, Palaversa said: “I’m glad the work of Hajduk’s academy has been recognised by one of the world’s biggest clubs. Thanks to Manchester City for the trust in me.

“There is still a lot of work ahead, I’ve not yet shown everything I can and I hope to play for Hajduk to justify the trust shown.”

Palaversa has 17 appearances under his belt for Hajduk this season, scoring twice, and becomes City’s second signing of the January window following Ko Itakura’s arrival from Kawasaki Frontale on Monday

Manchester City, meanwhile, sit five points behind Liverpool at the top of the Premier League having lost 2-1 to Newcastle on Tuesday.

The Citizens face Arsenal at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday.
