PSG's failed Everton transfer bid has been publicly confirmed

Everton manager Marco Silva has confirmed the club have rejected a bid from Paris Saint-Germain for midfielder Idrissa Gueye.

The 29-year-old has been linked with a move to PSG during the current transfer window, with the French champions looking to bolster their midfielder as Adrien Rabiot’s future looks in doubt.

Will Gueye stay at Everton? Five key things to know…

  1. Gueye joined Everton from Aston Villa in 2016 for a reported £9m.
  2. The Senegalese has gone on to become a key part of the Toffees’s midfield.
  3. His impressive performances have not gone unnoticed, with PSG tabling a £21.5m bid for the midfielder.
  4. But Everton manager Marco Silva has confirmed the club have rejected the bid and intend to keep Gueye when the transfer window closes on Thursday..
  5. No player in the Premier League has made more tackles than Idrissa Gana Gueye this season (83).

According to reports, PSG had tabled a £21.5m bid for the Senegalese midfielder in addition to their pursuit of Zenit St Petersburg’s Leandro Paredes.

But Silva has confirmed Everton have rejected the bid and plan to keep Gueye, whose contract at Goodison Park runs out in 2022.

“My reaction is the same as our reaction as a club. We reject the offer. He is a really important player for us,” Silva told reporters.

“We do not put players in the market for clubs to buy. I can’t see the value of Gana in this offer. He is a player we do not think of losing at this moment. He is important for us.”

Gueye signed for Everton from Aston Villa in 2016 and has since made 94 appearances for the Toffee across all competitions, becoming a key part of their midfield.

The Senegal international has built a reputation for his fine tackling, currently leading the way in the Premier League with 83 this season.

Silva hopeful Everton can retain Gueye’s focus

The confirmation of a rejected bid comes after Silva admitted he had spoken to Gueye about the reported interest, hoping it would not affect the midfielder’s game.

“I think he heard and I think he read,” Silva said earlier in the month.

“It is something, I can tell you, that I spoke with him about, for him to be focused on his job.

“He is a worker, as you know, he is a very good professional and I hope this thing will not disturb him and disturb his focus because he is an important player for us in our squad and our XI.

“I hope it does not disturb him and make his focus a little different than normal because we need him at the level he is playing.

“Everyone is talking about him because he is doing well, he is improving to a different level last season, he is enjoying what he is doing, he is enjoying every session here at Finch Farm but I hope the things people are talking about don’t disturb him.”
