Manchester United icon Eric Cantona has hinted he thinks either Liverpool or Manchester City are currently the best team to watch in the Premier League.
Cantona made 185 appearances for Man United, scoring 82 goals and winning four Premier League titles before retiring in 1997.
In an interview with Belfast Live, the Frenchman revealed he still watches his former club as often as possible.
“I always try and watch as many United games as I can because I love them,” Cantona said.
United have made an indifferent start to the season, losing three of their opening eight Premier League games.
And even Cantona will admit there are better teams to watch than the Red Devils – even if he can’t bring himself to name Man City or Liverpool.
“It’s terrible but the best team to watch at the moment is the other team,” he said. “The one I don’t like to mention by name!”
Why Liverpool and Man City?
It’s easy to see why Cantona thinks City and Liverpool are the best teams to watch.
Both sides possess stylish attacking players – a label perfectly suited to Cantona – including the likes of David Silva, Sergio Aguero, Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah.
But when Cantona was asked about which footballers he currently loves to watch, the 52-year-old revealed his admiration for a player who does most of his work in deeper positions.
He said: “Obviously Messi and Ronaldo are fantastic players. But last year at the shows I said how great I thought Luka Modric was at Real Madrid.
“He was fantastic in the World Cup and I feel he is now getting the recognition he deserves for the fantastic passing ability and non-stop effort he puts in.
Man United take on Chelsea in the Premier League this weekend, while Liverpool travel to Huddersfield Town and Manchester City host Burnley.
