Piatek won’t be leaving Genoa in January despite “long queue” for Europe’s top scorer

Genoa director Giorgio Perinetti remains adamant that in form striker Krzysztof Piatek will not be leaving the Serie A side in January.

Piatek joined Genoa this summer and has netted an incredible 13 goals in his first eight appearances for the club. The striker also netted for Poland in their UEFA Nations League tie against Portugal on Thursday.

His excellent early season form has, of course, led to speculation that he could move on again in January, but Perinetti has ridiculed suggestions that he could leave the club so soon.

“There is a queue for Piatek and I hope it grows, but so far there are only shows of interest,” Perinetti told TuttoMercatoWeb.

“Now he has to confirm his form and improve. He has a strong character, so won’t get distracted by the transfer market rumours. We had already spotted in the first training ground games that we were dealing with a really important player.

When asked if he could leave for €50m, Perinetti said:

“Not a chance! He is our player and we’re keeping him. We are studying his progress and haven’t set a price-tag on him, so we’ll just enjoy him for the moment.

“We’re curious to see just how good he can become, but at this moment we’re helping him have a good season. There are many clubs observing him, including international sides, so we’ll see…”

Zbigniew Boniek, President of the Poland Football Federation, recently admitted his reluctance to get over-excited about Piatek’s early season form, comparing him to “a beautiful girl” and adding “for the first few months, you only see the positive aspects, then you notice the rest.”

Piatek among Europe’s best

Piatek’s electric form in front of goal sees him lead the way as Europe’s most in-form striker as it stands.

His record of 14 goals in 10 appearances for club and country means he’s averaging a goal every 60 minutes.

Genoa sit 11th in Serie A having won four or their first seven league matches so far this season.
