"He has heard" - Silva hopes Everton star can ignore PSG talk

Everton manager Marco Silva has ruled out a possible January exit for Idrissa Gueye amid speculation that Paris Saint-Germain are interested in the midfielder.

The Ligue 1 leaders have been heavily linked with a move for the Senegalese anchorman, with Thomas Tuchel keen to recruit a defensive midfielder.

Could PSG sign Idrissa Gueye? Five key things to know…

  1. PSG are believed to have expressed interest in signing the 29-year-old with reports suggesting they will make a January move for the Senegal international.
  2. Tuchel has expressed an eagerness to sign a central midfielder with Adrien Rabiot’s future unclear.
  3. Julian Weigl, Leandro Paredes and Abdoulaye Doucoure have also been linked with a move to the French capital.
  4. Gueye will see his present Everton deal expire in 2022 which means acquiring his services would require a substantial fee.
  5. No midfielder has won more tackles (51) than Gueye in the Premier League this season.

Silva is hoping the speculation will not impact Gueye’s current form, admitting he took his midfielder to one side to discuss the growing interest from PSG.

“I think he heard and I think he read,” Silva said (via Liverpool Echo).

“It is something, I can tell you, that I spoke with him about, for him to be focused on his job.

“He is a worker, as you know, he is a very good professional and I hope this thing will not disturb him and disturb his focus because he is an important player for us in our squad and our XI.

“I hope it does not disturb him and make his focus a little different than normal because we need him at the level he is playing.

“Everyone is talking about him because he is doing well, he is improving to a different level last season, he is enjoying what he is doing, he is enjoying every session here at Finch Farm but I hope the things people are talking about don’t disturb him.”

Rabiot out of contention for PSG

Wantaway midfielder Rabiot is reportedly running down his contract which will expire at the end of the season, as he seeks an exit from the Parc des Princes.

As such, Tuchel has revealed that Rabiot will no longer be available for selection as he has refused to sign a new deal with the club.

Speaking ahead of PSG’s 9-0 mauling of Guingamp, Tuchel said (via Goal): “I have to prepare my team for Guingamp and it will be a team without Adrien Rabiot.

“I respect the club’s decision. And it is a decision of the club.”

Weigl, who worked under Tuchel during his time in charge of Borussia Dortmund, has emerged as a serious candidate to join the books in Paris, but the PSG manager played down such rumours.

He added: “Weigl? I can’t talk about players who are at another club.

“Julian was one of my players, but he belongs to Dortmund. We’re working hard to recruit a defensive midfielder.

“Fourteen days is not long but I trust we can recruit the players we need.”
