Harry Wilson has confirmed he will stay at Derby County for the remainder of the season after Liverpool’s window to recall the winger from his loan passed.
Ending speculation of a return to Anfield, Wilson revealed it was “always my focus” to stay at Derby and aid the Rams’ promotion push.

- The Wales international has scored 10 goals and provided two assists in 22 Championship appearances for Derby.
Wilson’s form for Derby has seen him become a regular for the Wales national team, for whom he scored two goals in seven appearances in 2018.
And the long-range specialist has said he is looking forward to stay at Derby for the rest of 2018/19.
“That was always my focus,” Wilson said, according to Derbyshire Live. “At the beginning of the season, I signed a season-long loan, so it was always in my head that I was going to be here for the season.
“Now that window has gone, everyone knows I’m here to stay. I want to help Derby get into the Premier League.
“I want to keep scoring and assisting, helping the team and getting us as high up the league as I can.”
Did Liverpool really need Wilson?
Liverpool’s decision not to recall Wilson makes sense. The Welshman would have trouble breaking into the team’s front line ahead of Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane or Roberto Firmino.
What’s more, when Jurgen Klopp opts for an attacking midfielder, he already has Xherdan Shaqiri and Adam Lallana to call on, plus Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain when he returns from injury.
By staying at Derby, Wilson is guaranteed first-team football and can continue to impress Klopp from afar, with the aim of breaking into the Liverpool side in the future.
He has already scored against Premier League opposition in the form of Manchester United in the League Cup and Southampton in the FA Cup this term.
