Gary Neville has claimed that he would have been terrified of facing Man City assist machine Leroy Sane were he still playing today.
The former Manchester United right-back has heaped praise on the incisive German winger who registered his ninth league assist against Huddersfield Town on Sunday.
How good is Sane at present? Five key things to know…
- Since the start of last season no player has registered more assists than Sane (23), six more than any other player, while also having a considerably better minutes per assist ratio (159.30)
- The 23-year-old has been directly involved in 17 goals for the club this season (8 goals, 9 assists), more than any other player.
- The winger has also been involved in more goals (17) than any other German player in Europe’s top five leagues this campaign.
- Manchester City legend Yaya Toure has recently stated that his former teammate will go on to become “the best”.
- Sane is only second to Eden Hazard (10) in the race for this season’s Golden Playmaker Award for most assists.
City humbled managerless Huddersfield 3-0, closing the gap on current league leaders Liverpool to four points, while also becoming the first team in Europe’s top five leagues to score 100 goals in all competitions this season.
Sane played a key role in the victory, registering an assist after setting up Raheem Sterling for the second on 54 minutes, before getting his name on the scoresheet two minutes later to complete the rout.
Speaking on Sane’s current form, Neville revealed his awe for the former Schalke 04 winger to Sky Sports, stating that he would have been petrified of facing the “electric” winger.
He said: “As a right-back, I always have in my mind: who would I not want to play against?
“Him. He’s electric.”
Sane the best young player in the PL?
With the Premier League passing its halfway stage, the PFA Young Player of the Year for best player aged 23 or younger in English football will certainly be on people’s minds
And having helped City triumph at the Kirklees Stadium with an emphatic performance, many believe the German is currently the best young player in the PL, if not the world, and is destined to retain his crown.
