Zlatan Ibrahimovic: Germany boss Joachim Low can step down with dignity

Germany head coach Joachim Low should step down and allow “new blood” to assume leadership of the national team, former Sweden striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic has suggested, though the 2014 World Cup winner is assured of his place in the history books.

Low, 58, was given the Germany job in 2006 and has another four years on his contract. But recent results have raised questions over whether the man who guided his country to their fourth World Cup win in Rio not so long ago should remain in his post.

They were eliminated at the group stage in Russia this summer and a defeat to the eventual winners, France, in October’s international break saw Germany rack up six losses in a calendar year for the first time in their history.

Prior to that, they went three matches without scoring, representing another unwanted record for Low. The culmination of this particular streak was also a first; never before had Germany lost by three goals or more in 23 meetings with the Netherlands, who happen to be their next opponents following the 3-0 win over Russia last week.

Ibrahimovic, himself a history-maker through his all-time record of 62 goals for the Swedish national team, has suggested the Germany head coach’s role could change hands for the first time in over a decade. To see what he had to say, check out the video above.
