Harry Redknapp reveals the one former player he’d take onto I’m a Celebrity

Former Tottenham Hotspur manager Harry Redknapp reveals that he would have liked Rio Ferdinand to brave the jungle with him down under.

Redknapp is the seventh figure from the footballing world to face the trials and tribulations of the long-running ITV show, following previous appearances from Neil Ruddock, Rodney Marsh, Jimmy Bullard, Kieron Dyer, Wayne Bridge and Dennis Wise.

Harry Redknapp’s life in the jungle so far: Five key things to know…

  1. Redknapp is currently taking part in the 18th series of ITV’s I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here!
  2. The former Tottenham Hotspur manager is one of 11 contestants in the jungle this year.
  3. Redknapp has already proven to be a hit with viewers, regaling his fellow jungle mates with interesting anecdotes and seems to have settled into life in the jungle having stroked exotic crabs and chowing down on emu meat in his first few days..
  4. And, talking to the public as part of the show, Redknapp has admitted he would like to see how Rio Ferdinand tackled the jungle.
  5. Redknapp has overseen 858 games throughout his managerial career, in charge of eight clubs.

When asked which former player he’s like to bring on the show Redknapp said that he’d choose Rio Ferdinand: “Oh my god that is a difficult thing off the top of my head.

“I know Razor Ruddock would be good fun, but he’s already done the jungle many years ago.

“I might take Rio Ferdinand and see how he gets on with it. He’s a good lad, Rio.”

Redknapp managed Ferdinand during his seven-year tenure with West Ham United and against towards the end of the defenders career at Queens Park Rangers during the 2014-15 season.

Ferdinand spent his formative seasons with the East Londoners before he rose to prominence, first with Leeds United and then famously with Manchester United where the defender won a Champions League and six Premier League titles.

The former centre-back is now a TV star in his own right, with regular appearances on football analysis shows and in BBC documentaries.

Redknapp still awaiting on managerial return

Despite currently being in Australia for the show, Redknapp is still looking for a new managerial role, not quite retiring yet.

Redknapp has been out of management since being sacked by Championship side Birmingham City last September, following a poor start to their season.

But, speaking in May, the Englishman spoke of his desires to get back into the game, feeling he could still do a good job.

“I could still do it,” he said.

“I still feel as good as ever and I wouldn’t have a problem doing it.

“Given the opportunity to go in and build a team, I know I’d do well.”
