Usain Bolt was left stunned when he was handed a drug testing notice, despite retiring from athletics and not yet being given a contract from Central Coast Mariners.
Bolt, the world record holder for the 100m sprint, retired from athletics last year to pursue a career in professional football.
But, despite scoring twice in a friendly on Friday during his debut for Central Coast Mariners – where he is on trial – the 32-year-old is yet to be offered a professional contract by the club.
However, on a story post via his Instagram account, Bolt revealed a demand for an out of competition test – to collect urine and blood – that appeared to have been issued by Football Federation Australia (FFA).
“So guys I’ve retired from track and field looking to become a footballer but look at this,” Bolt said in the post on Monday, before zooming in on the notice.

“How am I going to get a drug test today? I’m not even a professional footballer yet. Seriously,” said Bolt (via Sky Sports).
“So I asked the lady, ‘Why am I getting drug tested when I haven’t signed for a club yet?’ and she said they told her I’m an elite athlete so I have to get tested. Okay then.”
Bolt may be displeased with the notice, it would appear that the Austrailian Anti-Doping Guidelines mean that the FFA is only acting within the rules.
The official guidelines (according to Sky Sports) define an athlete as a “person who competes in sport” if “the sport has an anti-doping policy”.

Bolt, who won eight Olympic gold medals during his days on the track, is a massive Manchester United fan and has a long-standing ambition to play professional football.
His two goals against Macarthur South West United on Friday made for a great start, although he is still waiting to see if he can earn a permanent contract in the A-League in Australia.
