Virgil van Dijk discusses partnership with centre-back partner Joe Gomez

Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk believes that he has a very good understanding with fellow Reds centre-back Joe Gomez

Van Dijk has quickly established himself as one of Jurgen Klopp’s most important players since his £75m transfer from fellow Premier League outfit Southampton back in January.

One of the first names on the team-sheet, Van Dijk will be hoping to help Liverpool achieve more success this season as they continue to try and close the gap on reigning Premier League champions Manchester City, while also hoping to go one step further and win the Champions League this season.

Young defender Gomez has slowly pulled himself into the Liverpool set-up as Klopp aims to utilise the fantastic young prospects at the club, with Trent Alexander-Arnold already settling into the right-back position.

Van Dijk believes that playing alongside Gomez for Liverpool this season would be a good experience but he insisted every man in the Reds squad will be needed for a successful campaign.

Speaking in an interview with Liverpool’s official website, Van Dijk said: “I was not really worried, to be fair.

“I’ve played a couple of games in pre-season with Joe at centre-back and I have a very good relationship with him, a very good understanding outside of the pitch as well.

“We need everyone in the squad.”

Liverpool started the season off in spectacular style by beating east London side West Ham United 4-0 at Anfield last Sunday.

They next face a tough trip away to Crystal Palace this Monday at 8pm.
