Santiago Solari has been appointed as Real Madrid head coach on a permanent basis, the club has confirmed.
The Argentine had been in charge of Los Blancos as caretaker, following the sacking of Julen Lopetegui, who was dismissed after just 14 games, the last of which was a 5-1 El Classico humiliation by Barcelona last month.
Since stepping up from the Real Madrid B team, ‘Castilla’, Solari has overseen four straight wins and the club’s form seems to have stabilised.
“The Board of Directors of Real Madrid CF, meeting today November 13, 2018, has agreed to the appointment of Santiago Solari as coach of the first team until June 30, 2021,” Madrid stated on their official website.
Solari’s interim spell was due to end on Tuesday, with Spanish league rules stating a caretaker manager can only be in charge for 15 days, and Real were forced into a decision.
Real Madrid’s start to the season
Real’s rocky start to the season has seen them take up sixth place in the La Liga table, having already lost four of their opening 12 league matches. Los Blancos currently sit four points behind league leaders Barcelona.
Their bad patch of for also saw Real Madrid lose 1-0 against CSKA Moscow in the Champions League. However, they have won all three of their other group games so far and are joint-top of Group G, sitting level with Roma on nine points.
Santiago Solari’s first game as permanent Real Madrid manager is away to Eibar on November 24.
