The art of shooting; every player wants to master it but only a select few ever do.
Marcus Rashford falls into the latter category, having developed into one of the most fearsome strikers of a football in the modern game.
Just ask Gianluigi Buffon, who was almost catapulted back into his own net such was the sheer power on the Manchester United forward’s injury-time penalty at the Parc des Princes on Wednesday.
The 21-year-old is fast becoming peerless under pressure and caused pandemonium by tucking his spot kick away, which has led eagle-eyed fans to scrutinise his style of shot.
Rashford executes the ‘wobble’ perfectly, whereby he pushes through after making contact with the ball and extends his foot to add ferocious power to his effort on goal.
As the first penalty of Rashford’s senior club career proved, it can be devastating from close range and is difficult for even the finest of goalkeepers to read.
The England international also put his technique to good use from distance, firing a strike with a spot of swazz straight down Buffon’s throat, which gifted Romelu Lukaku an opportunity to gobble up the rebound.
With a variety of methods in his striking repertoire, Rashford’s quality has never been in doubt, but the confidence Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has added to his game has produced a potent – and potentially prolific – mix.
