Pep Guardiola: Man City can handle transfer ban

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola is confident his side will be able to manage should they be given a two-window transfer ban.

Off the back of news Chelsea will be unable to register new players until the summer of 2020 due to breaking rules over the signing of foreign players under the age of 18, Man City are facing similar punishments.

Why are Man City facing a transfer ban? Four key things to know…

  1. Manchester City are being investigated for the international transfers of minors.
  2. Chelsea have recently been handed a two-window ban from transfers for similar offences.
  3. And, according to reports, Man City are set to be given the same ban.
  4. But Pep Guardiola believes his side can cope with any ban, thanks to their quality of their squad.

The Premier League champions are currently under investigation from FIFA over their signing of young players and, according to reports, City are set to be handed the same transfer ban as Chelsea.

But Guardiola believes his team would be able to deal with any ban handed their way, given the strength of their squad.

“It’s good, really good,” he told reporters of his squad.

And when asked he if you manage without being able to make any signings, the Spaniard answered: “Of course.”

Guardiola refused to delve further into the discussion, revealing the club do not explain their plans of action to him.

“I cannot say anything,” he added. “I said what I said, I was clear in my opinion. The club made their statement so I don’t have any comments.

“I understand your job. I think I answered six or seven questions about that. I am not even the right guy to talk about what the club says.

“They don’t call me and explain what they are doing. I am concerned about what i have to do.

“What is going to happen is going to happen.”

City have previously been investigated by FIFA for their international transfer for under-18 players but were cleared of breaking rules when they signed Benjamin Garre from Velez Sarsfield in 2016.

Guardiola: Man City season will not be stained by a ban

The club are also being investigated by Uefa with regards to Financial Fair Play but speaking last week, Guardiola expressed his beliefs that Man City would not be tarnished by any sanction.

He said: “When you are fighting, people want to underestimate what you achieve. I’m not too much concerned or worried about what people say.

“If we win the title just because what happens now with Uefa [and] they do not give us credit for what we have done, believe me I… don’t… care! Absolutely zero.

“I know exactly what the guys are doing for the last two seasons and more and that is what remains my feelings.

“I don’t know whether it is important for the rest of the people, but it is important for ourselves.

“When we did it (win) it belongs to us and nobody is going to change that.”
