Gareth Bale’s agent, Jonathan Barnett, claims the Welshman wants to play the remainder of his career with Real Madrid amid talk of a summer exit.
Reports of a rift reopening between returning manager Zinedine Zidane and the forward have resurfaced with Spanish football expert Guillem Balague claiming that Zizou doesn’t want to work with Bale.
Will Bale Leave Madrid? Five key things to know…
- Bale made an £85.1m move from Tottenham to Real Madrid in 2013.
- Since the move, the 29-year-old has won La Liga once and the Champions League four times.
- Despite the medals, Bale’s had an erratic spell in Spain with frequent injuries and is now often jeered by home supporters.
- Bale is not best friends with returning manager Zinedine Zidane, but his agent insists he wants to remain at the club.
- Bale has been on the radar of Manchester United ever since he joined Los Blancos, with four offers reportedly being made.
Despite that, Barnett claims his client is very happy in the Spanish capital at the moment, but did not rule out a move in the summer.
Asked if Bale will stay at Real, Barnett told the BBC: “Yes, why not? He wants to play all his career for Real Madrid and if it does not work out, we will talk again.
“He will talk with Mr Zidane, take it from there and then see at the end of the season.”
Barnett elaborated further on the past discord between the pair and attributed it to a disagreement over how to play the game.

“Gareth wanted to play one way and Zidane wanted to play another,” Barnett added. “That was the cause of it and over a period of time, it got worse.
“If you let Gareth play the way he wants to play, having a run of games in a row not in and out, he can be right up there with Cristiano Ronaldo. He still has a great talent.”
Bale to United?
With Barnett speaking so candidly about the disagreement, this will only support rumours that the Welsh superstar will leave Madrid at the end of the season, despite his professed intentions to remain in Spain.
Manchester United have been heavily linked with another move for Bale, who they’ve been interested in for quite some time.
They have reportedly made at least four attempts to sign him – from Southampton, Tottenham and twice from Madrid – and the move is looking more likely than ever due to Alexis Sanchez becoming an epic flop at Old Trafford.
Bale might not be as highly sought after by the Red Devils as he once was, however, as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s at the wheel and has restored the club’s emphasis on developing younger players.
With fledgeling talents like Joao Felix and Jadon Sancho tipped to become available over the summer, United might be looking to secure their long-term future.
