The draw for the quarter-finals of the Champions League have been made, with the remaining eight teams learning of their routes to the final.
With defending champions Real Madrid knocked out, favourites Barcelona have a tough tie against the revived Manchester United in a repeat of the 2009 and 2011 Champions League finals.
What Champions League fate awaits the English sides? Five key things to know…
- For the first time since 2008/09, there are four English sides in the quarter-finals of the Champions League.
- In arguably the tie of the round, Manchester United will look to continue their revival when they face Barcelona.
- Last season’s runners-up Liverpool have been drawn to face Porto in a repeat of last year’s round-of-16 tie.
- There is also an all-Premier League tie with Manchester City facing Tottenham Hotspur, while Juventus host Ajax.
- The first legs will take place on 9-10 April with the return ties a week later on 16-17 April.
It will also see Lionel Messi ready to haunt English sides once more having scored 22 times in previous matches against Premier League opposition, including two against Manchester United.
There will also be at least one English team in the semi-finals of the Champions League after Manchester City were drawn against Tottenham Hotspur.
The Premier League leaders beat Tottenham 1-0 when these sides last met in October and are set to play their return league game a few days after the second leg.
Liverpool will face Portuguese side Porto in a repeat of last season’s round-of-16 tie, which the Reds won 5-0 en route to the final and will now fancy their chances of reaching a second consecutive Champions League semi-final.
And, in the final tie of the round, Cristiano Ronaldo will take his Juventus side to Ajax who brilliantly beat defending champions Real Madrid in the last-16.
