Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has insisted that “nobody will get rid of” his side in the Premier League title race this season.
The Reds are gearing up for what is going to be a tense few months on Merseyside as they attempt to win their first league title in 29 years.
Can Liverpool win the title? Five things you need to know…
- Liverpool are second in the Premier League on 73 points, one point behind league leaders Manchester City.
- The Reds have scored the second highest (68) and conceded the least goals (17) in the Premier League this season.
- They have only lost one Premier League game all season: 2-1 away to Pep Guardiola’s City.
- Klopp’s side have eight games remaining including matches against both Tottenham and Chelsea.
- They are also still competing in the Champions League, where they will face Bayern Munich this week.
Liverpool produced a solid performance against Premier League strugglers Burnley to ensure they picked up all three points in a 4-2 victory at Anfield on Sunday.
The win means they have kept pace with City at the top end of the Premier League – City beat Watford 3-1 on Saturday – and ensures the title race will continue into the closing stages of the campaign.
Reds boss Klopp spoke to reporters after the match to reassure everyone that the club will not be knocked out of the title race and that they are going nowhere.
“The message for the day: nobody gets rid of us if we play as we played today,” Klopp told Sky Sports.

“We had the perfect mixture from fighting the opponent, fighting the circumstances, and playing football. I liked it. We have to make sure we stay in a really interesting competition at the top of the table.”
Next up for Liverpool in the Premier League is an away trip to Fulham on Sunday.
European distraction?
To be the best, you need to be able to compete at the top in every competition available.
Liverpool travel to Bayern Munich this week in the Champions League last-16 second leg after the two sides drew 0-0 at Anfield last month.
A score-draw will be enough to see Liverpool through, with Bayern’s home advantage potentially playing into the hands of the Liverpool-counter, which so many teams have fallen victim to since Klopp’s arrival.
It will be interesting to see how far Liverpool push for progression with the Premier League title still playing on their minds.
