Adrien Rabiot suspended by PSG amid Man Utd links

Adrien Rabiot insists “everything is fine” at Paris Saint-Germain despite being suspended by the club for two weeks.

The Frenchman was reportedly punished for being seen at a nightclub after PSG’s Champions League exit from the Champions League on Tuesday night.

Adrien Rabiot to leave PSG? Five things you need to know…

  1. It is suggested the Frenchman, on £55,000 per week, is unhappy to be earning significantly less than others at PSG.
  2. Rabiot has not appeared for PSG since December amid contract disputes and has been suspended for another fortnight after liking Evra’s video.
  3. His contract with PSG expires this summer and it is claimed negotiations have been called off amid links to Barcelona, Man Utd and Liverpool.
  4. PSG are reportedly determined not to let the midfielder leave for Barcelona, with whom relations are strained due to the Neymar transfer saga.
  5. But Liverpool acquired two midfielders, Naby Keita and Fabinho, for a combined total of £99m last summer.

Speaking on the incident, PSG sporting director Antero Henrique said: “I find unacceptable the attitude and lack of professionalism of a player like Adrien Rabiot towards the club, his teammates and the fans.

“Remember up to June 30, 2019 he is part of our squad.”

But reports have also claimed Rabiot liking Patrice Evra’s celebration video after the defeat played some part in the suspension.

Rabiot’s relationship with the club has been stretched to breaking point this season, as the France international is reportedly unhappy with his current salary, which is significantly less than other players at the club.

The Frenchman has not made an appearance for PSG since December and has been heavily linked with a summer move away from Parcs des Princes.

However, Rabiot has remained relaxed throughout the turmoil, telling InfoSport+: “Of course, it has been hard not playing these past three months.

“However, this situation is not of my choosing.

“I am at the club’s disposal. Everything is fine, I am in shape. If I could play I would, but the leaders have decided otherwise.”

He added: “Despite everything that is said, I am still a PSG player. I am under contract and with my teammates.

“Going out of the Champions League to United was very disappointing, again, as it is not the first time like this.”

Where next for Rabiot?

Rabiot will almost certainly leave Paris at the end of the season after failing to sign a contract extension this campaign.

Manchester United are rumoured to be interested in acquiring his services, but with the 23-year-old’s knack for unprofessionalism it may be unwise for the Red Devils to sign him.

The Frenchman is undoubtably one of the best midfielders in Europe; he regularly completes games with a 90%+ pass-competition rate. His ability to break up play and suppress opponents in the midfield is also noteworthy.

One of the problems previously with Rabiot was that his affairs were closely managed by his mother Veronique Rabiot, who was also his agent.

But, according to reports last month, the Frenchman sacked his mother after she failed to secure a winter move to Barcelona.
