Real Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane confirms he “would love” to coach Kylian Mbappe

Returning Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane has admitted he would “love” to coach Kylian Mbappe.

The Frenchman replaced Santiago Solari as Los Blancos boss less than 10 months after leaving the Santiago Bernabeu in search of a new future, and has reportedly been given a £300m war chest with which to rebuild.

Real Madrid’s Rebuild: Five things to know

  1. Zidane is Real Madrid’s third manager this season. This is the first time this has happened at Los Blancos since 2004.
  2. The Frenchman resigned last summer and was replaced by Julen Lopetegui before Santiago Solari’s short spell in charge.
  3. Solari left the club with no chance of winning any silverware this season after being knocked out of the Champions League by Ajax.
  4. Zidane takes the reins at Madrid on a contract that will see him back at the club until 2022.
  5. He is believed to have a £300m war chest to sign new Galacticos in the summer with Kylian Mbappe a target.

Zidane begins his second spell in charge of Real Madrid this weekend when he hosts Celta Vigo. The visitors currently sit 18th in La Liga so the Frenchman will be expected to hit the ground running.

Ahead of the game, he addressed the media and PSG pair Kylian Mbappe and Neymar were the hot topics.

When asked about whether either one of the duo would be coming to the Bernabeu, he said: “I’m not going to talk about players who are not mine.

“I would love to coach Mbappe, as I would all the good players. But this is not the moment to talk about that.”

Of course, Zidane cannot make additions to the squad until the summer anyway. That’ll mean his current task will be to get the best out of a familiar group of players who have been underperforming.

One of those players was Isco, who publicly fell out with Solari during the Argentine’s time in charge. He was also very heavily linked with a move to fierce rivals Barcelona.

So far this season, the 26-year-old has made just 24 appearances for Los Blancos and just five starts in La Liga. With this, he has contributed just four goals and two assists for the campaign.

Compare that to Zidane’s last year in charge and Isco had seven goals and nine assists from 41 games across the Champions League and La Liga.

When asked about Isco, Zidane said: “He just wants to play football, nothing else.

“We’re here just to think about football.

“I’m going to count on Isco, as well as other players, the important thing is that I make each player feel very involved.”

Is Mbappe to Madrid that crazy?

Still only 20 years old, a summer move to Real Madrid would see Mbappe leave PSG after just two seasons. However, in those two seasons, he has proven to be cut from a cloth deserving of being a Galactico.

In fact, Los Blancos have been keeping tabs on Mbappe since he burst onto the scene at Monaco in the 2016/17 season.

It is also said the deal which took Alvaro Morata to Chelsea from the Bernabeu was made with Mbappe in mind. However, he stayed in France and has gone on to continue his rapid growth to the top of world football with PSG.

Currently, he is a World Cup winner, two-time Ligue 1 champion, has won the Coupe de France, Coupe de la Ligue, World Cup Best Young Player and many more awards.

Along with that he has 77 club goals and 46 club assists. Not only that but his record in the Champions League, a competition Zidane helped Madrid become synonymous with again, is also immense for his age

This should take Florentino Perez’s fancy and as we’ve seen in the past, he isn’t scared to break world-record transfer fees to get players he takes a liking to.
