Wojciech Szczesny reveals how one ex-Arsenal teammate’s shot power used to terrify him

Juventus goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny has dished on some of his former Arsenal teammates and the Polish international hasn’t held back.

Comedy Central might want to consider booking Szczesny for a Roast Battle, as even though he had harsh words for some of his former colleagues they’re good for a giggle.

Szczesny dishes on former team-mates: Five key things to know…

  1. Szczesny played for Arsenal for five years before moving on to Serie A in 2015.
  2. The 6′ 5″ shot-stopper played with some fantastic players during his time in north London and he seemed to get to know them well.
  3. The Juve goalkeeper took some hilarious shots at former team mates including Samir Nasri and Santi Cazorla.
  4. He also praised the qualities of players like Thierry Henry and expressed his terror of Lukas Podolski’s shot.
  5. Szczesny praised Aaron Ramsey’s work rate and is looking forward to reuniting with him in Turin next season.

In an interview with Polish football journalists Łukasz Wiśniowski and Kuba Polkowski on their YouTube channel ‘Foot Truck’, Szczesny admitted he used to cover his head instead of saving Lukas Polodski’s shots in training.

He told Foot Truck, as translated by Reddit user ‘hochmvn‘: “I remember, and I’m not lying to you now.

“In training, when Poldi got the ball inside the box, 10, 11 meters I didn’t want to save, I covered my head. I swear, just protected the head.

“Really funny guy and with all that normal person.”

However, it wasn’t all positivity, with Szczesny admitting Gervinho was not as good as he thought: “Who thought he would be in the top 40 I played with?! Add one more 0.”

The Polish goalkeeper also revealed his beliefs that Robin van Persie should have stayed at Arsenal, despite winning the Premier League with Manchester United.

He added: “You have to admit, he left to Manchester United and next year won a title, but the year after that he got benched, moved to Turkey and his big career ended.

“He could have made other decisions and achieved lots more at Arsenal.

Szczesny had a lot to say about more of his former team-mates, including Tomas Rosicky, Jack Wilshere and Santi Cazorla.

Tomas Rosicky

“You watch ‘Little Mozart’ play with great pleasure. His movement on the pitch was impressive, full of class and grace.

“I still believe he must be the richest footballer I know. He never spent any money.

“The whole time I was at Arsenal he had the same car, a 2005/06 Mercedes, and he only wore clothes from his sponsor.

“The only thing he didn’t spare on was his guitar.”

Jack Wilshere

“My best friend, alongside [Grzegorz] Krychowiak. At my wedding he got so drunk, we were looking for him everywhere for two hours and found him sleeping in bushes.

“He had one injury that he never really fixed and it’s caused the next and the next. He’s one of the greatest talents, I ever met.

“Because of injuries he now plays in West Ham rather than a big European club.”

Santi Cazorla

“We were at a training camp in Cologne, Germany when Santi joined us. In the first training session, we played small games.

“After training, the guys gave Arsene a round of applause for signing Cazorla. Slow, small, but one of the best I’ve played with.

“He has an unbelievable mind and technique. I can’t tell what was his best asset, but you played with him and were like, ‘Oh my God, he’s so good.’

“Lovable, friendly, always smiling. I’m not wanting to insult him but he did have a tendency to gain weight.”
